In Capern City, Daisy brought Joy home and said to the little girl, "Here's our family's rule. No work, no food. Wash your hands and come in to help me cook."
Joy looked at her and pouted. "But I don't know how."
"If you don't know how to do it, learn it. Girls have to learn to do housework from a young age. That way, you can win a boy's heart."
Joy frowned. "Why do I need to win a boy's heart?"
Daisy choked. She wanted to say something, but she felt that it was inappropriate. In the end, she said fiercely, "Just do what I tell you to!"
Joy walked to the kitchen. She wasn't even as tall as the cooking bench.
Daisy simply gave her a job politely and let her pick vegetables.
Joy hid on the ground and asked as she worked, "Mrs. Sherman, did Carson do the same thing when he was young?"
Daisy snorted. "Nope. Carson is a boy. Of course, he can't do this kind of housework. It's all his sister's job."
"Carson's sister? Who is it? Why haven't I seen her before?" asked Joy.
Daisy clicked her tongue impatiently. "Can you be quiet for a moment, you little rascal?"
Pouting, Joy returned to the previous question. "Mrs. Sherman, you're partial. Why should girls do housework and boys not? Aren't you a girl, too? Do you want to be treated unfairly?"
"You... are you teaching me a lesson?"
"Mrs. Sherman, I'm just talking sense with you. If Vivian marries Carson in the future and gives birth to baby girls and baby boys, Vivian will be upset if you treat the babies differently."
Daisy was rendered speechless by a child.
"Do you think I'm right, Mrs. Sherman?" Joy cocked her head at her.
Daisy waved her hand impatiently. "Get out. Get out of here. Why are you talking so much? Go outside and watch television."
"Mr. Sherman, we're family from now on. My sister Vivan and Carson are in a relationship."
Daisy heard Joy's shameless words and came out to glare at her. "Stop spouting nonsense, child."
Joy pouted and asked, "Am I wrong?"
Frederick could not bear to see Daisy's fierce look and protected Joy. "Why are you so mean? It's good that Carson and Vivian are together. What's the problem of talking about it?"
Daisy fiercely told Joy to get the forks and plates.
Joy obediently went to the kitchen to get a plate. Frederick was afraid she would fall, so he hurriedly ran to help.
Frederick was amiable. Joy was more willing to talk to him. After dinner, Frederick and Joy sat in the living room. Joy pestered him to learn to play chess.
Frederick was surprised to find the little girl was unbelievably smart.
