“There you go… All done!” Arthur clapped his hands as he took the casts and bandages in my body.
After two days of recovering, my body is finally ready to move normally. Thanks to the combined efforts of Arthur and Chloe, developing a potion that could repair broken bones, I was able to come back in tip-top shape in less than a week even with the heavy injuries that I had.
“What’s your plans today?” Arthur cast a curious look on me as he tidied up his things and prepared to go to Chloe’s laboratory.
“I was thinking of visiting your lab to see Chloe... But looking at your countenance these days, it seems like everything isn’t going well?” I replied.
“Sigh… it is as you said… I’ve even contacted Father to take a look at it because it seems like we were not even close to deciphering a layer of it…” Arthur brushed his head while lamenting over the matter of the poison.
“It’s only been two days… don’t pressure yourself too much,” I replied.
“I know man…. But we cannot afford that luxury. At any time Alpha Kain decides to move on a large scale and use that against us we will be doomed without much resistance.” Arthur’s tone became heavy as his face darkened with the unimaginable dread that the poison could bring to our alliance.
The appearance of the poison effectively shook our plans in place. Now with the knowledge of it, everyone has been on tenterhooks especially those who were going out doing the continuous pincer attack missions.
“... But hey, just go and talk to Chloe… She’s been shutting herself in the quarters and often forgot what time is it. If not for Esha’s fervent reminder for her to eat or sleep, she would have worked for two days straight!” Arthur changed the topic and patted my shoulders with an encouraging look. “Go see your mate.”
“Alright…” Hearing about Chloe’s condition, I nodded, grabbed my silver mask, and quickly headed to the laboratory not even waiting for Arthur to come.
“Go go! I’ll give you two some time!” Arthur gave a playful wink as he gestured his hands saying I have to go.
When I reached the laboratory, the first person I saw was Esha, the young doctor I had encountered near the human village back then who turned out to be Chloe’s apprentice. She was instructing the assistants in the lab on how to do some poisons.
“O-oh.. Alpha Sabre! You’ve come!” Esha sensed my presence at the door and immediately greeted me with an awkward and shy look.
I was taken aback by her attitude as from the very first time I saw her, she was someone who was constantly cold to strangers unless they were patients. But this time, she was like a little girl seeing an adult she recognized deeply.
“I’m here to have a short talk with Alpha Chloe, is she around?” After greeting her with a nod, I asked.
“O-oh master?! Okay, I’ll lead you to her… Follow me… please, Alpha Sabre.” Esha awkwardly showed the way.
The way to Chloe’s exclusive laboratory was quite a long walk from the main entrance and so there was an awkward silence between me and Esha. For a moment, I felt a little helpless.
As Chloe’s mate, I should start working my way to get acquainted and even close to her people. Esha was Chloe’s one and only student, however, I was clueless about how I should treat her.
“Ermmm… I heard from the teacher that Alpha Sabre did his best to bring those strong poisons…” While I was trying to figure out how to open a conversation, Esha’s shy voice broke the silence.
