Evelyn returned to the Quintin estate, where Old Mr. Quintin was in the living room's cozy study, meticulously copying calligraphy onto canvas, while Old Mr. Jarvis dozed off beside him with a cup of tea in hand, seemingly waiting for their return.
"You are back," Old Mr. Quintin said with a gentle smile, setting down his brush.
Evelyn approached, pouring a cup of tea for Old Mr. Quintin, and chuckled, "Grandpa, you should get some rest. No need to wait up for me. With Gabriel around, I'm safe. Just take good care of yourself."
Old Mr. Quintin replied with a warm smile, "Had too much afternoon tea, not sleepy at all. Did you have fun?"
Evelyn nodded, "A lot. Met many friends."
Old Mr. Jarvis stirred awake, glanced behind her, "Where's Gabriel?"
Evelyn's gaze dimmed slightly, speaking softly, "Gabriel went to drop off a friend. He might be back late."
"What friend?" Old Mr. Quintin inquired.
Evelyn looked down, remaining silent.
A flash of insight struck Old Mr. Quintin, and with surprise, he asked Old Mr. Jarvis, "Has Gab got himself a girlfriend?"
Rubbing his eyes wearily, Old Mr. Jarvis responded, "How would I know."
Old Mr. Quintin found it incredible, "He's only been back a few days. How could he already have a girlfriend?"
Evelyn explained, "It was Ms. Sampson who introduced her to Gabriel. Actually, I know her too."
Old Mr. Jarvis chuckled, "He really has a girlfriend? And you know her? What's her name?"
With a flicker in her eyes, Evelyn slowly said, "Sylvia."
Taking a sip of his iced tea, Old Mr. Jarvis said, "Gab's decisions are his own. I trust him."
"I don't see her as proper girlfriend material," Old Mr. Quintin huffed, "Gab's not getting any younger. He should be finding a decent girl to settle down and start a family."
In front of Evelyn, Old Mr. Jarvis deliberately remarked, "Young people have their ways. No need to meddle. You can't force love, and you can't pair up lovebirds by force."
Old Mr. Quintin glared at Old Mr. Jarvis, "No wonder Gab's 34 and still unmarried. It's all because of your indulgent attitude."
"Grandpa, Old Mr. Jarvis, please don't argue. It's my fault for not being clear. Maybe Gabriel and Ms. Jarvis aren't in that kind of relationship," Evelyn hurriedly interjected, "Please, don't fight over this."
"Did we scare you?" Old Mr. Jarvis said with a smile, "Don't worry, we do this all the time. I give in to him; we won't really fight."
Old Mr. Quintin sneered, "It's always about who gives in to whom, isn't it?"
