Marcellus pinched her chin as she stared at him in a daze. "Why are you spacing out? Don't go to the hospital today since you're feeling unwell, okay?"
Snap back to reality. Beryl moved her head back. "No, I have to take care of my father."
Although they were dating, she couldn't let it interfere with other responsibilities. "I've already taken leave from school, so I can't skip the hospital."
This would make her feel guilty.
Marcellus looked at her stubborn appearance and sighed helplessly. "Rest for just one day, and I'll arrange for the hospital to send the best caregivers over..."
"No!" Beryl suddenly reacted strongly, rejecting his offer. "Absolutely not!"
Marcellus was startled by her reaction, and his narrow eyes squinted slightly. "Why are you so worked up?"
"I-I'm not worked up..." Beryl thought of her conversation with Wallis at the station, trying to hide it from Marcellus while figuring out how to refuse. She was feeling uneasy.
Marcellus quickly caught on to this little scheme. Seeing her feeling torn and hesitant, he almost guessed the reason.
"Did your family say something after you went back?"
Her heart skipped a beat when he hit the mark. She tried to act calm, "No, of course not... I'm going to freshen up. Please move aside."
