Chapter 305 Discovering Mia
Evelyn didn’t know why Maura had told her this, but the only thing she could be sure of was that Maura definitely had bad intentions. If she went, it would be like willingly falling into a trap.
Evelyn kept persuading herself to calm down and not be impulsive, but when she thought of Huston’s recent unusual behavior, she still took out her phone and called him.
The phone rang for a long time. Just when she thought that no one would answer and was about to hang up, she suddenly heard his steady voice saying, “Hello?”
Evelyn felt her heart tighten and beat so fast that it seemed to break through her throat. “You…”
As soon as she said a word, her voice trembled violently. She took the phone far away and tried to make her voice sound less abnormal before asking, “When are you going home?”
“I probably won’t be able to come back until late. Don’t wait for me,” Huston responded quickly, his voice devoid of emotion.
“Are you still attending social activities?”
“Yes.”
Perhaps because Evelyn had doubts, she quickly noticed
something unusual. She felt that the environment behind him was unnaturally quiet, as if he were inside a room.
Would social activities be so quiet?
Evelyn bit her lip and didn’t say a word for long.
After waiting for a while, Huston called out to her softly, “Evelyn?”
“I’m listening.” Evelyn came back to her senses and blinked a few times before her eyes turned moist. “I’m fine. I’ll go home first.”
Huston nagged her with two more sentences. Evelyn hardly paid attention and absentmindedly hung up the phone. She felt her heartbeat amplified countless times, vibrating and resounding in her chest, causing her head to swell.
Before she could judge, she quickly walked to the street and stopped a taxi. She said in an unstable tone, “Sir, let’s go to the North Town villa!”
“North town villa? It’s quite far away. No taxi is allowed to enter. Miss, are you sure…”
“I’m sure!” Evelyn interrupted the driver. “Let’s go.”
After the evening rush hour, there were few cars on the street. The taxi driver drove very fast. Evelyn’s palms were covered with a layer of cold sweat. Because she was too nervous, her whole body was weak.
She had never thought of tracking Huston, but everything lately had been too unusual. She was puzzled and couldn’t understand, while he kept avoiding her. Today, she was intercepted by Maura, and with just one sentence, all her trust crumbled.
How did she find out about Huston’s recent abnormality?
This feeling was terrible. It was as if everyone knew what he was doing, and she was the only one in the dark.
Therefore, Evelyn acted on impulse and bit her finger. She didn’t care as long as Huston wasn’t there. As long as he wasn’t there, she would believe him and never ask him what he had done.
The car sped on the highway for nearly an hour before arriving at the entrance of the villa estate. The entrance gate was grand, measuring a total of twenty meters in length. There were strict security personnel on duty in the guard booth. The taxi stopped by the roadside, and Evelyn paid the fare and got out of the car.
In the cold wind, Evelyn was anxious and didn’t have a chance to sneak in. It seemed like a stroke of luck when she discovered a small gap in one corner of the villa estate. Some unfinished electrical cables were hanging above. Not far away, a worker wearing a hat with a flashlight was busy.
Evelyn bent down and walked over. Luckily, her small and slender physique allowed her to fit through the gap. The sky was dark, and the nearby worker remained unaware of her presence.
