Finding Love in the Boss’s Embrace After Divorce novel Chapter 406

Chapter 406 He’s Definitely Not an Ordinary Person

The phone was connected to the Bluetooth of the car. Huston quickly picked it up and deliberately lowered his voice.

“Hello?”

The other end of the line was silent for two seconds, and an aged voice rang out. When Huston heard the voice, the traffic light turned green, and he was about to start the car. His hands jerked on the steering wheel, causing the car to veer off course. This drew honks from the cars in the adjacent lane.

Huston drove the car back to his lane. It was rare for him to be

confused. “Hello, Evelyn?”

“I’m not Evelyn. I’m her father.”

The phone emitted a man’s deep and powerful voice, causing Huston’s grip on the steering wheel to tense. He even glanced

at the caller ID again, afraid he might have made a mistake.

The name “Evelyn” did appear on the phone screen, but why

was it her father speaking to him now?

Never before had Huston experienced such intense emotional

fluctuations as he did now.

moment, his heart was calm

and composed, but in the next moment, a storm of emotions. surged within him.

However, the panic in his heart did not show on his face. Instead, he greeted Ben politely and respectfully, “Hello, Mr. Shelton. I’m Evelyn’s boyfriend, Huston.”

After that, he seemed to feel that his previous attitude was a little rude, so he added, “I didn’t know it was you when I answered the phone just now. I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine,” Ben replied indifferently. He glanced sideways at his eavesdropping daughter standing behind him, then entered. his own room while holding the phone. He made sure to lock

the door, ensuring that she couldn’t hear him. Afterward, he

spoke, “We received the items you had Evelyn bring back. They

are all very nice, but we don’t need them. There’s no need to

spend so extravagantly. Our family doesn’t have such high

standards, and we can’t afford it either. It’s the thought that counts, no need for extravagance.”

Ben’s tone was gentle, but he had already clarified his

position. Huston sensed it, and he didn’t rush to respond. He waited until Ben finished speaking before replying, “Mr. Shelton, I selected these items because I thought they would

be suitable for you and Mrs. Shelton. If you don’t like them, I’ll ask Evelyn your preferences next time. You don’t have to feel any psychological burden. It’s something I should do.”

Something he should do.

Ben smiled silently, shook his head, and thought, “He’s good at talking.”

“Anyway, Lucy and I are very grateful to you. And I have heard about the situation between you two from Evelyn. If you have time, come to our house for a meal.” Ben’s words were purely courteous and polite.

Unexpectedly, Huston deliberately took advantage of the

situation and said, “Mr. Shelton, on the day Evelyn returns,

why don’t you and Mrs. Shelton come together as well? It’s a good opportunity to take a look at the place where Evelyn usually lives.”

As soon as Ben made the invitation, Huston seized the

opportunity. Ben didn’t want to refuse outright but also didn’t want to commit, so he gave a vague response, saying, “I’ve been quite busy lately. I’ll check with Lucy, and then you can coordinate with Evelyn regarding the details.”

Huston didn’t make many requests and agreed readily. “Okay, Mr. Shelton. Thank you for calling me. Have a nice day. Goodbye.”

After hanging up the phone, Ben found that his palms were sweating. He was so focused on talking that he didn’t notice it.

Now he realized how tense he was.

He was a man who had seen much of the world. At this time, he could be so nervous when talking to the young man on the other side of the phone. This young man was definitely not an ordinary person.

He had heard of Huston but didn’t know much about him. Now

it seemed that the rumors were not completely false. Huston was young, but he knew what others were thinking. He was

extremely smart.
