Chapter 415 Six Hundred Thousand Dollars as a Gift
After returning home, Ben washed up drunkenly and went
to bed. Lucy sat in the living room watching TV. Evelyn was boiling water in the kitchen. Through the crack in the door, she saw Lucy wiping her tears.
Despite the funny program playing on the TV, she was crying.
Evelyn turned around, took a deep breath, and held back the tears in her eyes. Today was New Year’s Eve. But at that moment, she felt very sad.
This year seemed to have made her feel more oppressed than any other year before.
Just as Evelyn thought deeply, her phone in her pocket suddenly rang. Who could be calling at this time?
She calmed herself down, picked up her phone, and saw that it was a call from Huston. Her finger paused for a moment, and she quickly answered, “Hello?”
“Happy New Year.” Huston’s deep and warm voice came into her ears, and all the blessings were condensed in his voice.
Evelyn couldn’t help but feel a tinge of sadness. The thought of everything that happened tonight made her unable to hold back her sense of grievance. She made an effort to maintain a composed voice, not wanting to worry him. “You too. Happy New Year.”
However, as sharp as Huston was, how could he not hear the trembling in her voice?
He immediately frowned, and even his tone became a little tense. “Are you crying?”
Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat. She didn’t expect him to see through her so quickly. “No, I just yawned…”
Hearing this, Huston did not speak. Evelyn could vaguely hear the rustling sound. After a long silence, she did not hear any response. She thought that he had dropped the line. “Hello?”
“I’m here.” On the other end of the line, there were two beeping sounds as if something had been turned on. “I just transferred some money to you.”
Transferring money?
Evelyn was stunned. “Wait a minute…”
She took the phone away from her ear and checked her account balance in the mobile banking app, which showed an additional amount of six hundred thousand dollars…
Six hundred thousand dollars?
Evelyn was surprised, and her eyes widened. She had never received such a large amount of money transfer before, and she was somewhat puzzled…
“Why did you transfer so much to me?” she asked.
She had jokingly asked him for a New Year’s gift before, hoping for good luck and maybe a small windfall. But now, the transfer prompt for six hundred thousand dollars was right in front of her… She didn’t dare accept it.
It was not a small amount of money for her.
“Is this much?” Compared to her surprise, Huston appeared much calmer. “It’s your New Year’s gift. Take it.”
