Chapter 512 Don’t Tell Him
Even when she was going through a divorce with Jerry before, she didn’t become so thin and haggard. Now, she looked like her body had weakened by half.
“Don’t cry. It’s my fault. Please, don’t cry.” Evelyn couldn’t bear to see her so sad and upset, gently patting her back to comfort her.
Grace wiped her tears, calmed down, and turned around. She knew Evelyn felt worse than her, so she couldn’t blame her. “Do you know how worried I’ve been all this time without contact from you? If you do this again in the future, I will cut off ties with you. People make friends so that they can help each other in crucial moments, but you, on the other hand, seem to want to push me away!”
Grace knew that Evelyn had avoided contact out of fear of implicating her. It was precisely because of this understanding that Grace felt even more distressed.
She always shouldered everything alone. She was so stubborn that it made people feel sorry for her.
Evelyn raised her hand to wipe the tears on Grace’s face and turned to look at the police officer next to her. “Could you please give us a moment alone? I have something to say to Grace.”
“Okay, I’ll be right outside the door. Ms. Shelton, you can call
me if you need anything.”
“Thank you.”
After the police left, Evelyn pulled Grace to sit on a chair. The room had a surveillance camera, so their every move was monitored. Fortunately, they had a tacit understanding. After a few steps, Grace handed the test paper to her from her sleeve. Their bodies were next to each other, and their movements could not be seen from the surveillance camera.
The two of them sat down, and Grace looked at her distressed and complicatedly. “What’s going on?”
Evelyn thought for a moment and shook her head. “Too many things have happened recently, and I can’t explain it clearly in a few words. The only thing I can be certain of is that I am innocent.”
She didn’t care about how the outside world or others perceived her. What she cared about were her loved ones and friends around her. She didn’t want to disappoint them.
“Huston is currently helping you with the lawsuit. With his abilities, he should be able to help clear your suspicion.” Grace was unaware of Huston’s plans, but she saw in the news that he had become Evelyn’s defense attorney.
Evelyn opened her mouth but said nothing in the end. She just smiled bitterly and said, “I hope so.”
“Does Huston know about this?” Grace asked cryptically as her
gaze fell on Evelyn’s lower abdomen.
Evelyn understood, and her expression became serious. “I don’t know. Don’t tell him. Don’t let anyone else know about this except the two of us.”
“Then… how confident are you?”
“Let’s give it a try first.” When Evelyn thought that she might get pregnant, her face turned pale. “I hope not.”
“If it’s true, how can you manage without informing Huston?” Despite the accommodations provided by the police station, it was still a difficult environment. As a woman, she wouldn’t be able to endure if she had a pregnancy.
