Chapter 515 Do You Want a Child?
In the end, Evelyn couldn’t hold back the tears in her eyes. She was afraid she would cry out loud, so she quickly grabbed a stack of tissue paper beside the toilet and covered her mouth. She clenched her teeth tightly, biting her lips, not making a sound, but her body trembled uncontrollably.
She gently covered her belly with her left hand and suppressed her tears. “Baby, just give me a little more time, a little more, and we’ll be fine…”
Recently, Huston had been deeply troubled by the lawsuit but had never forgotten Evelyn in the police station. The trial was about to begin, and Evelyn needed to be held in a detention center on the outskirts. To avoid the media, they specifically chose to transport her at night.
Huston was worried, so he followed the car in person. As soon as he closed the case file, he set off for the police station. During the journey, he took a brief rest with his eyes closed. The driver occasionally glanced at the rearview mirror and saw the tall man leaning his head against the car window, feeling a tinge of bitterness in his heart.
The driver drove smoothly along the way. When they arrived at the police station, he called out softly, “Mr. Lloyd, we have arrived.”
Huston opened his eyes almost immediately. His deep, dark
eyes were bloodshot, and he looked exhausted to the extreme.
Without saying a word, he opened the car door and walked into the police station without stopping for a moment. There was obvious anxiety in his steps. It was not difficult to see that he missed the person inside very much.
The driver gazed at the transport vehicle parked in the yard. Unlike regular cars, it was covered with a sturdy iron mesh, creating a sense of fear. He sighed silently, sincerely hoping for a positive outcome to this situation, wishing the couple would no longer endure further torment.
When Huston entered the room, Evelyn had already changed her clothes. Going to the detention center required wearing the “prisoner uniform” there, but luckily, she didn’t need to wear handcuffs and leg irons, which allowed her to maintain some dignity.
With just a glance at her clothes, Huston couldn’t bear to look at her anymore. He took a step forward and pulled her into his embrace. “There are only a few days left. Hold on a little longer.”
Evelyn felt his warm embrace, but her body was cold, like a wooden stake.
“It’s getting late, Mr. Lloyd, Ms. Shelton. Please get in the car.” The police officer reminded them from behind. The chief was also waiting outside. This case was not small, and it involved Huston. All departments attached great importance to it, and there could be no room for any mistakes.
Evelyn and Huston walked out of the gate, one in front of the other. It was the first time in several days that Evelyn could feel the outdoor air, even though it was nighttime. It brought a sense of refreshment to her.
It turned out that freedom was so important.
Evelyn suppressed the sourness in her nose and silently reaffirmed a decision in her heart.
On the way there, Huston sat in the front seat. She was in the back seat, and there was a wire net door between them. For the first time, she felt like she was a criminal.
When they were about to arrive at the detention center, Evelyn called out to him softly, “Huston.”
Huston quickly turned around and asked nervously, “What’s wrong?”
Evelyn gazed into those eyes that once brought joy but now caused deep pain. The words “I’m pregnant” struggled on her lips for a long time but couldn’t be uttered.
Seeing her hesitation, Huston asked with concern, “What’s going on?”
Evelyn gritted her teeth and said word by word, “Do you want a child?”
