Chapter 516 Indescribable Horror
Evelyn didn’t continue the conversation any further. She was escorted off the transport vehicle by the personnel and entered through the gates of the detention center. At the moment
of separation, she looked at the man in the shirt and pants. Despite showing some weariness, he still couldn’t hide hist handsomeness. In contrast, she had become thin and lost all her
grace.
Evelyn seemed to see the invisible gap that stood between
them. They loved each other deeply, but something was quietly changing, and they could not go back.
Huston didn’t know what she was thinking, but he could see the genuine sadness in her eyes. Regardless of any rules or regulations, he walked straight to her, reached out with one hand, and pulled her towards him by the back of her neck. Then, he leaned down and kissed her dry and cold lips…
She raised her head to cooperate with him, and a hint of moisture appeared in the corners of her eyes. In her heart, she resented the unfairness of fate, forcing two of them who loved each other to go through such torment.
Huston didn’t know how heartbroken Evelyn would be if he insisted on pleading guilty.
Evelyn took a deep breath and gently pushed Huston away. The armed police officers beside them averted their gaze, afraid to
look in their direction. She stared into his eyes and choked out, “I have to go.”
A breeze swept past her as soon as she finished speaking, carrying a sense of desolation that felt more like late autumn than early spring.
Evelyn couldn’t bear such a scene anymore. She turned around and followed the armed police inside. She could feel the burning gaze on her back, which was fixed on her every step. She gazed at the pale lights lining the corridor, unaware that the real storm had only just begun.
Evelyn was assigned to a separate room. Without any need for explanation, she knew Huston had arranged it. Unlike the police station, the detention center housed all kinds of criminals, ranging from thieves to murderers. Putting someone as vulnerable as Evelyn in there was like placing an immature lamb among a pack of wolves; she would never be able to withstand such an environment.
Evelyn stepped into the single room and looked around. She noticed that the space was extremely cramped, making it suffocating. There were no windows in the room, only a bed, without even a table. The bathroom only had a small basin without a toilet. The entire room was damp, with even moss growing in the corners due to the lack of sunlight. There was a foul smell lingering in the air.
Despite considering herself capable of enduring hardship,
Evelyn couldn’t suppress the overwhelming sensation of discomfort while being in such an environment. She couldn’t help but feel itchy all over her body.
“This is your room. If you have any issues, just call the prison guard outside. Still, please try to keep quiet and avoid unnecessary commotion,” the staff member said with a more serious demeanor than the previous staff at the police station, speaking with an expressionless face.
Working in such an environment for a long time, even a positive and cheerful person would likely become somewhat cold.
Evelyn didn’t care much. She nodded politely and said, “Okay, thank you.”
The man glanced at her and said nothing more. He turned around, closed the door, and left.
Evelyn was the only one left in the room. It was late at night, and the light was dim. It was really terrifying.
She walked to the bed and sat down. The thin mattress made a
creaking sound. She moved quietly and sat on the side with her arms around her knees. She did not go into the middle of the
bed.
“Are you done? The lights are about to be turned off.” A woman’s rough voice came from outside.
Evelyn cleared her throat and said, “Yes, please turn it off.”
