Chapter 537 A Line Between Life and Death
Thinking of the child, Evelyn quickly explained, “I’m pregnant. Do you know?”
Before coming here, Bert had already told the man everything about her, so he was not surprised to hear her say this. “I know.”
As the color drained from her face, Evelyn’s complexion grew pale. She understood that this was no joke; life and death hung by a thread. They were at the precarious edge, a thin line that was less than a millimeter wide. “We cannot afford any mistakes,” she said.
After all, jumping from the tunnel entrance to the moat below was no small feat, let alone from a car moving at high speed.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Shelton. Even if I have to sacrifice myself ten times, I won’t let anything happen to you.” After uttering these words, the man suddenly crawled up from below and squeezed himself next to her in the driver’s seat. The car continued moving at the same speed, but neither touched the accelerator pedal.
Everything was ready except for the last jump. They all knew that, so the atmosphere became tense in an instant.
“Mr. Harper is a trustworthy person. I hope you can trust him.”
When Evelyn heard this, she was stunned for a moment, and
then she couldn’t help but sneer. “So what if I don’t believe him? I’ve already handed over two lives to him.”
She and her child were both involved in today’s battle.
After saying this, neither of them spoke again. If Bert really wanted her to die, there was no need to spend so much time and energy and risk his man’s life.
It was a piece of cake for that man to kill her.
Seeing that there were more and more lights in front of her, Evelyn subconsciously held her breath. They were about to reach the exit.
She only felt that her adrenaline was soaring, her breathing was getting faster and faster, and her head was slightly short of oxygen. She was extremely nervous.
When less than a third of the way left, the man rolled down the window. According to the rules, this was absolutely not allowed.
There was an armed police car behind them, responsible for supervision. Seeing their abnormal speed and rolling down the window, the armed police officer shouted at them through the walkie-talkie, “Pay attention, roll up the window.”
Hearing the steady voice, the man’s expression did not change, and he stared unblinkingly at the road ahead.
Evelyn’s whole body was drenched in sweat. She raised her hand to cover her lower abdomen as if, in this way, the baby could be safer.
When the man saw her actions out of the corner of his eye, even he, a tough man, couldn’t help but be moved by this moment. He lowered his voice and said, “Ms. Shelton, sorry to offend you.”
Before Evelyn could figure it out, in the next second, those arms, as firm as steel, tightly wrapped around her waist, pulling her close to his side.
“Ah!” Evelyn cried out in surprise. “What are you doing?”
