Chapter 108

When Benjamin was finished taking, Pandora gulped. But her inner voices were all in agreement with what he had said. ‘I know that I hide my feelings, and I’m Sorry. It’s just hard for me to confide in anyone. But when could I have talked to you about it? We’ve barely had an hour together without someone -the hospital- interupting.”

Just as if to prove her point, Benjamin’s pager went off. Benjamin segned to just sit there and his pager went off again.

“You should probably get that,” she told him and he sighed as he stood up. But before he could walk out, the door opened.

“Hi, Benjamin, I’ve been paging you. I saw Minnie and she told me you were here,” a woman’s voice said.

“Nurse Leena, is there a problem?” he asked as her head turned to the door.

“I brought you a late dinner. I know that you missed out on dinner tonight and I thought you’d be hungry. You will need something in your stomach to work these extra hours.”

Before Benjamin could say anything, Pandora leaped up. “Fancy seeing you in person, bitch,” she hissed at the nurse, making her

gasp.

“Pandora,” Benjamin gasped, sounding shocked.

“Don’t you ‘Pandora‘ me. Fine, Benjamin, go with her, but I am telling you here and now, the boys and I are finding somewhere else to live.” Benjamin frowned, looking at her. “This is the nurse I called twice, and she claimed that you weren’t here. She intimated on the phone that I was bothering her and then suggested that you were off screwing someone else. I will not be treated like that, and I will certainly not allow her to push our son to the side just so she can come on to you. If you want to go with this woman and eat ‘the dinner she brought for you, then go right ahead; just stay away from me.”

She moved back to the chair and sat down.

“No, that’s not what I said,” Nurse Leena claimed.

“Get out of my son’s room,” Pandora told her with a glare. She needed the nurse to leave or she would end up losing her shit completely and beating the crap out of the woman.

“Leave, now,” Benjamin commanded, looking at her, and within a few seconds, she felt his arm on her but she shook her head at

him.

“No,” she looked at him and said. “Benjamin, I get that you were busy, but she-” she stopped.

He looked pained. “I’m sorry. She was out of line and I’ll make sure she’s dealt with. I haven’t been with anyone.”

“I know, but it still hurt me that she suggested it. I shouldn’t have to put up with that. That should fall under sexual harassment, because let’s face it, that’s what she was suggesting you were doing,

Benjamin nodded. “She’s Raegan’s cousin, and I’ll make sure she is reported for her behavior. He paused for a few seconds and his thumb started to stroke her cheek. “I handed in my resignation tonight,” he blurted out.

She turned and looked at him. “That’s not-”

He covered Pandora’s mouth, stopping her from talking. “It’s what I had to do. I was pissed off that I was called in. The hurt look on “your face followed me here. I miss you and my boys. I’ve had enough. When I found out the reason I had to cover was so that my colleague could head to the bar with some other people who were off work tonight, instead of doing the late shift, I was pissed.”

“So I delivered the baby, and when I was done, I sat down and typed but my resignation. I dropped it off and went to get changed to

come home. I was in the doctor’s lounge and had just closed my eye for a second. The next thing I knew, Caleb was shaking me awake saying that you and Jack were here. I looked at my pager and there was nothing, but I knew you would have called. I thought it was odd, but I just wanted to get here.”

“You love your job, we can make it work, we’ll find a way,” she told him.

“No, you have got me wrong, love. I will now only be working at the clinic. That’s eight–thirty to five–thirty, four days a week. Then I’ll work one to nine, here at the hospital as part of clinic rotation one day a week, which is every Wednesday. My weekends will be free, except one weekend a month I’ll be on call for our clinic patiens only. That will be my schedule from here on out.”

She looked at him, feeling unsure. “Pandora, I want you and the boys My work used to be my family, my child. Just like your work, and your home, were yours. Think of it this way, if Aron asked you to come back and put in the same hours you used to work, would

you?”

She thought over what he said and shook her head at him. “Maybe I would work from ten to four like I did when I was pregnant, but I can’t do the eighty–plus hours a week anymore. I pulled that a lot when I was with Derrik. But that’s not just because of the boys that I wouldn’t want to work like that.” She closed her eyes.
