Chapter 11

She quickly got out of the tub and put on her bathrobe before grabbing her cell phone. Instantly, she jumped as it started to vibrate in her hands. She hissed when she saw Derrik’s name flashing on her screen. She pressed accept to answer the call and forewent all formalities when she spoke.

“That better not be you at the door!” she stated as she went to the window.[]

“Get your ass here and let me in!” Derrik sneered.]]

“Fuck you,” she hissed out and disconnected the call. Right away, she dialed the emergency number. “I warned the asshole, this is on him,” she muttered as she waited for someone to respond.

“Pandora!” she heard Derrik yell and he started pounding on the door again.]

“What is the address of your emergency?” The monotone male voice asked over the phone.[]

“Pandora!” Derrik yet again bellowed followed by the pounding on her door.[]

She stated her address, her voice breaking.

“Answer the fucking door, you stupid bitch!” Derrik screamed again, continuing to pound on the door.[]

“What is the nature of your emergency?“]

“I need the cops. There is a man trying to break into my home,” she informed quickly.[]

“Pandora!” Derrik yelled again and she looked down through the window at him.[]

“Are you alone?” the operator asked.]

“Yes.”

“Pandora, let me in or I swear to God!” Derrik sounded so angry that she was worried about her safety.

“Ma’am, is that him yelling in the background?“]

Pandora closed her eyes, hating that the abusive language was being heard by someone she didn’t know. “Yes, it is him. He is my ex–husband. Please, I have asked him to stay away several times. He will not leave me alone and I am pregnant,” she cried. She covered her mouth, hoping to stop babbling. The operator didn’t need to know all that information.[]

“Ma’am, calm down. Take a slow and deep breath,” the man encouraged.[]

Pandora glanced out of the window and saw Derrik glare at her. His fists were clenched and he called her more derogatory names. “I am not going anywhere until you get down here, let me in, and talk to me.“[]

Pandora shook her head and relayed the words to the operator.[]

“Someone is nearby and they will be with you any minute now. Stay on the line with me until they arrive. This is for your protection. The recording is picking up on the things he is yelling.” Just as he said those words, Pandora saw the flashing lights of a police car.[]

“Thank you,” she muttered before disconnecting the call. She looked out of the window again and saw two officers walking up to Derrik. She sighed softly and walked out of her bedroom and down the stairs. She made it to the front door just as a soft knock was made on it.[]

The hate in Derrik’s voice was so clear that Pandora would have known he hated her without him laying it out so clearly.
