Chapter 35
“You’re a loser, and the bitch better stay away from me,” Raegan hissed, but there was another voice in the background. “This is how a guy fucks a girl, you wimp,” she carried on, but this time, it came out as a moan.
Ben hung up, only for the other to call right back. This time, he ignored it. After an hour of constant calls, he knew he had enough. He turned his cell phone off and shoved it into his jacket before walking out of the room.
The entire time he walked around, all Benjamin could hear was Raegan repeatedly telling him how boring he was. Walking into the first bar he saw, he settled at the bar and ordered a beer. It was just after his third that he made the mistake of listening to the voicemails from Raegan.
He drank a few more beers, and his anger got the best of him. Walking out of the bar, he headed for the bar where his sister and Milton were going to be. About halfway there, he came across a tattoo shop and went inside.
“Hey there, I’m just wondering if you have any openings tonight?” he asked the woman at the counter.
She looked him over and then dropped her eyes. “I’ve only got time to do a piercing.”
“Sounds good to me,” he said and nodded at her. At that point, he didn’t care what he got done. He just wanted to do something.
“Fill this out,” she stated and Ben took the form from her, filling in all the information. “I think you’d look pretty smokin‘ with your eyebrow pierced.”
“Yeah,” Benjamin said, agreeing without really caring one way or the other.
“If you’d like to sit here,” she smiled at Ben. He returned the smile, but only due to the manners with which his parents raised him. Taking the paperwork from him, she read it over. She walked to the counter and came back with a silver–curved barbell. He watched her open the packaging on the barbell, forceps, and needle. Once it was all set up and she had wiped his eyebrow, she smiled once again. “Ready, handsome?”
“Yes,” he said and she leaned in real close. If he had twenty–twenty vision without his glasses, her breasts would be in clear view.
He was a guy, but her breasts weren’t really his preferred type, anyway. For him, he would rather catch a subtle hint of cleavage, and be left wondering what the rest was. It was like unwrapping a great Christmas present; the hidden gift was better. You could wrap anything up for Christmas, but it was always more fun to not fully know what was under the paper until you opened it. If one was already aware of what was under the paper, then there was nothing left to look forward to.
“There you go,” she told him, sounding disappointed.
Looking toward the mirror, he couldn’t see himself clearly, so he placed his glasses back on. He gulped and touched the eyebrow ring.
“You don’t like it?” she asked,
“No, it’s great.” He smiled at her, but he had a feeling it would be taken out as soon as he got home.
“It looks good on you, but better without the glasses even if they are cool.”
Nodding at her, he stood and grabbed his jacket. “Thanks,” he said, handing her money over before walking out.
When he got to the bar where his family was supposed to be, he looked around, but couldn’t seem to see them.
“Here you go, Benjamin.” He turned back to see a glass filled with an amber liquid. “Milton told me you like Jack Daniels.” Taking the glass, he nodded and reached for his wallet, but he shook his head at Ben. “This one’s on me.”
“Thanks…” he trailed off as he didn’t know the bartender’s name.
Royce.”
