Chapter 47********
Benjamin closed the door of her car and headed for his own. Pulling into the parking lot at his office, she saw Benjamin standing outside his car. When she turned the engine off, he opened her door and gave her a warm smile as he extended his hand.
His hand stayed on the base of her back as he guided her into the clinic. She held back a groan and a pout when she saw the clinic was busy.
Benjamin chuckled and she could feel his breath right next to her neck. “I already booked a scan room for you. It was my plan to get you out of your office today, one way or another,” he claimed proudly as he guided her all the way through the reception area and into the hallway.
There was a part of her that knew she should be unhappy that he was planning on tricking her from the beginning, but the fact that she was getting to see her babies out of his plot overruled any displeasure she could have felt.
“You know the drill,” he said as she sat on the bed. She lowered her pants a little and pulled her top up, so it was just under her bra. Benjamin applied the gel, and she squirmed from the coolness of it.
“Sorry, I didn’t have a chance to heat it up. Now let’s see where those little rascals are, shall we?” He put the wand against her gel–covered skin. “There they are,” Benjamin informed, smiling broadly at the screen. Just let me do a few checks, and then I’ll turn the screen to you.”
Benjamin looked at the screen, but as the smile stayed on his face, Pandora knew not to worry.
“Okay, Mommy, here they are,” he said, turning the monitor in her direction.
“Wow, they’re so much bigger!” she muttered in surprise. She covered her mouth as they both reached out and clasped each other’s hands. “They’re holding hands, she noted, sobbing. “I don’t know why I am crying, but that’s…” Pandora trailed off, feeling stupid for crying.
Benjamin chuckled and leaned over her. He wiped her tears and handed her the tissue. She looked toward him as the babies started to kick her. Pandora clasped his hands eagerly.
“They’re moving,” she told him and placed his hand flat on her tummy. It never failed to amaze her when they did that.
“I can feel them,” Benjamin said with a light chuckle and a twinkle of excitement in his eyes. Pandora believed that he was used to feeling babies, so he must have felt differently. “Do you want to know if they are boys or girls?”
Pandora gulped and kept her eyes on the screen for a long time before speaking to him. Besides babies–healthy babies, no. I don’t want anyone to know… You know, a surprise on the big day.”
Benjamin nodded in understanding. “So your husband will be there, I assume?”
‘No! I’m going to give birth alone. There will be no one there to share it with!”
“Pandora?” Benjamin called in a raised voice as his hand cupped her cheek.
She shook her head at him. “It’s just going to be me,” she chuckled, trying hard not to start sobbing again.
“So it looks like the surprise will be for you only.” Benjamin’s thumb started to stroke her face as he looked at her. He looked pained but there was some guilt there, too. Pandora wondered why he was feeling guilty.
‘Because he knows the sex, stupid. Pandora hissed at herself internally.
“You know what sex they are, she said with a groan, putting it out into the open.
“I’m sorry, but in my defense, I do have to check out the babies fully,”
Pandora nodded thoughtfully. “I’ll need to think of some good strong names for them. She looked up at him before continuing. I only have one name in mind, so I need a few more.”
“What name is it that you already have in mind? Benjamin asked as he cleaned her up.
Tack.” She grinned, knowing that whichever one was born first would get the name Jack, as a namesake. After all Jack Daniel was part of the reason they are here. Moreover, she couldn’t, in good conscience, name her son Nemo. The poor boy would be bullied for his whole life.
“Do you have a middle name?” she inquired as he helped her sit up.
