With a bang, Jeffrey, who hadn't gripped it firmly, watched them as the coffee cup slipped from his hands and fell to the ground.
He looked at Gideon in disbelief. "What did you say?"
"She's pregnant," Gideon repeated while Lena glanced at him suspiciously.
Jeffrey had originally thought that Lena was just Gideon's girlfriend, and he was overjoyed about Gideon bringing someone home for the first time. He was utterly unprepared to be hit by such a bombshell, and it seemed to rattle him.
"Are you out of your mind?" Jeffrey stared at Gideon in panic. "Or have you already got married and just haven't informed us?"
Gideon shook his head. "Not yet."
Jeffrey grew more serious and patted Gideon's shoulder solemnly. "I'll get an ICU ready for you."
His gaze then fell on Lena. "It seems Gideon really has deep feelings for you."
Gideon frowned and glared at him, prompting Jeffrey to drop the subject and stand up. "There are a few more dishes that haven't been served. I'll go hurry them up."
After Jeffrey left, Lena looked at Gideon curiously. "Why did your uncle react so strongly?"
Noticing her curiosity, Gideon spoke helplessly. "There's an aunt of mine who suffered a broken relationship because she got pregnant before marriage, so the elders in my family don't really support these things."
Gideon spoke vaguely, but Lena sensed that the reality would be more complicated. If it was just the elders not being very supportive, why would Jeffrey have such a strong reaction?
No matter how much she pressed for answers, Gideon was unwilling to continue speaking. "I can handle these matters. I don't want them to affect your judgment."
