Others might be curious, but it all depended on her mood. Corbyn's eyes lit up like fireworks, and he couldn't hide his excitement: "Girl, you're something else!"
Scott and the rest were green with envy, wishing they could also bask in Flora's special attention...
---
Outside the assessment room, a bunch of anxious candidates were waiting, pacing like caged animals.
"It's been ages, hasn't it? You think something's up?"
Sydney had been inside for more than half an hour now. By all rights, she should've been out ages ago; what on earth was the holdup?
"What could go wrong? She's probably aced it and is getting apprenticed right now! From here on out, Sydney will be strutting around as Corbyn's disciple all over the Martial World," someone said, their tone dripping with envy.
But jealousy was pointless against pure talent. Sydney was a natural in medicine, having spent so much time at the Medical Hall. It was only expected that she'd clinch the championship.
The rest were just there to make up the numbers.
Tara, too, couldn't help but smile. She figured the timing was right; the assessment must have wrapped up. She headed upstairs, only to find Sydney still in the assessment room.
It seemed the championship was as good as hers.
This would mean another strong ally for her in the Medical Hall.
As everyone was chatting away, suddenly—
The door flew open!
With a loud "bang," something—or someone—was tossed out!
Everyone jumped in surprise, instinctively stepping aside, then squinted to see, and what they saw scared them senseless!
"Sydney?!"
The person thrown out was Sydney.
Wasn't she supposed to have been taken under Corbyn’s wing by now? How could she have ended up like this?
Tara was equally stunned, staring incredulously at the disheveled Sydney on the ground, "Uncle Amos, what's going on?"
"I, Tara, have always valued honesty and integrity and despise deceitful behavior. Someone like this has no place in the Medical Hall. I'll have her thrown out immediately!"
She announced with righteous indignation, receiving a chorus of applause.
True to Miss Brooke's character: morally upright and fearless!
"Can I see the Master now?" Tara asked softly, concerned, "I'm worried about how he's feeling and want to offer comfort."
"Of course," Amos nodded approvingly at Tara's demeanor. "The assessment is paused. We'll resume this afternoon. Those who haven't gone yet, grab some lunch. Miss Brooke, go right ahead."
"Sure thing."
Tara nodded. She was eager to find out what had really gone down to leave Sydney in such a mess.
As she pushed the door open and stepped inside, what she saw left her frozen in shock!
What on earth had happened here?
