"Flora!"
"You really think you can stop me?"
Flora’s hand, gripping the gun, slowly lifted it, aiming straight at Adrian's chest. Adrian felt his heart clench, but stubbornly, he refused to step aside. He just couldn't believe Flora would actually pull the trigger.
Even if she did, he wasn't going anywhere. His eyes locked onto Flora's, only to see her finger slowly begin to squeeze the trigger—
Her face was a mask of cold indifference, with just a flicker of hatred. In that moment, Adrian finally realized she was serious about pulling the trigger.
"Ring, ring, ring—"
Just when Adrian thought it was all over, a phone started ringing. The sound came from Flora's pocket.
Flora paused, the tension breaking as she pulled out her phone, glanced at the screen, and answered it. Whatever the caller said, it made Flora's lips curl into a chilling smile.
With a click, she ended the call, holstered the gun, and casually pulled a chair over with her foot, sitting down. The weight pressing on Adrian's chest lifted, and he exhaled in relief.
Flora shot him a sidelong glance.
Ha, he had the nerve to stand in her way with such little courage. Wasn't he worried she'd actually shoot him?
Karter, too, felt a twinge of emotion. Adrian was always a bit of a wild card, never taking things seriously, yet here he was, standing in harm's way.
"Flora…" Adrian spoke softly, cautiously eyeing her. Did the phone call change her mind?
"You'd even kill your own brother, just for that damn Reyes family?"
Adrian had barely started speaking when Flora cut him off, but she wasn’t talking to him. She was tapping the gun rhythmically on the armrest, her gaze shifting to Karter, icy and mocking: "You'd even kill your own brother, just for that damn Reyes family?"
