She felt a chill run down her spine. After all the effort she had put into getting pregnant, the thought of a miscarriage was terrifying. How could she ever explain such a loss to her in-laws?

“What on earth were you thinking, giving me this sachet? I’m heading straight to the hospital for a check-up. You better hope everything's fine with my baby. If there's even the slightest issue, you won’t hear the end of it!”

In her fury, all pretense of civility vanished. The woman slapped Camille hard across the face and stormed off.

“Take back your sachets, and consider the money we spent as good as gone. I should have known you couldn’t possibly know Féraphine.”

The other ladies were just as angry. If it weren't for Camille, they would have had sachets made by Flora!

They also snatched up their things and left in a huff, barely resisting the urge to slap Camille again.

Soon, the room was empty except for Camille.

Her face was swollen on one side.

Her skin was ashen.

She looked lost and alone.

She knew she had burned every bridge this time.

His voice was furious.

“Go and apologize to every single one of them! Make them forgive you! Do you hear me? I must have been cursed to end up with you!”
