"It was a defamation case, and we were the plaintiffs," Allison said, taking a sip of her drink. "Joshua, you wouldn't believe how tough it was to gather evidence for this one. The client initially handed over such incomplete evidence, and I spent over a month piecing it all together with them."
"Over a month? Wasn't that right before our engagement?" Joshua asked, placing a peeled shrimp into Allison's bowl. "That sounds exhausting."
"Yeah, it was just before we got engaged," Allison replied, dipping the shrimp into some sauce. "It was tiring, sure, but once we got the winning verdict, it was all worth it."
With a smile, Allison pulled out her phone. "Oh, and my client even sent me a plaque. Here, take a look."
Allison eagerly flipped through her photo gallery, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she showed off the plaque. "It's the first time a client has sent me something like this."
She beamed like a kid who'd just been given a gold star in kindergarten. Her bright eyes were waiting for some praise.
Joshua looked at her with tender affection, his voice gentle and doting. "My star lawyer is really something."
"Hehe," Allison giggled, blinking playfully, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Just doing my thing."
Shawn felt a tight knot form in his chest, and his back stiffening a bit.
He'd always thought their relationship was just a business deal, nothing more. He figured if he straightened up, he'd have a shot at winning Allison back.
Now, he realized how wrong he was.
They were the picture of a couple head over heels in love!
Back in Havenbrook, Allison would sometimes share work stories with him.
He used to think they were not worth his attention.
He'd tell her that all her hard work earned her so little and couldn't even cover a night out with his friends.
Little did he know, she came from a wealthy family and worked just to experience life and find her own worth!
When Allison talked about her work with Joshua, her eyes lit up with excitement, like she was a sparkling gem. She’s totally transformed into someone new.
Sadly, that gem wasn't his anymore.
Shawn watched Allison and Joshua's easy laughter and closeness. He was eaten up with jealousy.
Those moments should have been shared with him!
Her joys and sorrows should have been his to share.
Suddenly, he regretted following them here.
He'd meant to throw a wrench in things and mess with Joshua's head to break them up.
