Brian gave a nonchalant shrug. “Fair point.”

Joshua kept his mouth shut. While they played cards, he couldn’t help but keep checking his phone, just in case Allison sent him a message. After a few rounds, there was still no word from Allison, but his buddy Matthew had texted him.

Matthew: [Heard you've got some issues in that department?]

Joshua’s eyebrows knitted together and his lips pressed into a tight line.

Just as the game wrapped up, Brian stood up to stretch and caught a glimpse of the message on Joshua’s phone. He burst out laughing, the sound echoing across the room like a honking goose.

“Hahaha! Seriously, is it true? You've got issues?” Brian laughed so hard it looked like his sides might split.

Joshua shot him a cold, steely glare. Brian quickly swallowed his laughter, and his expression twisted into a comical attempt to hold it in.

“What’s the story here?”

Joshua got up. “I'm outta here.”

Brian, still grinning like a Cheshire cat, followed him, motioning for George to join in on the fun.

Allison took another swig of the drink the bartender had just mixed and began to sway as she belted out a song. By the time Joshua walked in, she was hitting the high notes with gusto, albeit wildly out of tune.
