Shawn's expression shifted dramatically. Lillian had already reached out to him, insisting over and over again that Allison and Joshua must never know about their connection.
Since Wesley had already been caught, it didn't seem to matter much if Allison found out about his ties with Zack.
Shawn shook his head, saying, "It's not like that."
Allison glared at him, her voice sharp as a knife, "Then how do you know? How did you know Chris took me to Maplewood, and how did you know about Joshua's plan? Did you call the cops on purpose, hoping we'd both be stuck there forever?"
"No, it's not like that!" Shawn's eyes flickered with urgency as he hurried to explain, "It's not like that, Allie. I had no clue about Joshua's plan. I only knew Chris had kidnapped you, and I called the police to save you. How could I just stand by and do nothing while you were in danger?"
Allison's patience was wearing thin. "I'll ask you one last time, how did you know Chris took me to Maplewood?"
"It was... it was someone from his team who told me..." Shawn averted his gaze, feeling a bit guilty.
Allison's eyes were locked onto Shawn as she asked, "Why would someone from Chris's crew spill that to you?"
Shawn replied, "My company was about to go under. I was desperately seeking investments, but because I had ticked off the Sullivan family, the Hartley family, and your Owens family, nobody dared to step in and help us out. Then a guy named Wesley approached me. He said he'd invest in Reynolds Group to bring it back to life, but only if they got to be the majority shareholders."
In reality, it wasn't Wesley who made the offer; it was Lillian. But he couldn't say that.
"Wesley?" Allison frowned, the name ringing a bell. If she remembered right, Wesley was a big shot at London’s old workplace and had quite the reputation in Oak Lake, mixing both above-board and shady dealings. He was ruthless and cunning.
