Goodbye, My Ex... novel Chapter 10

The interior space of the car was quite closed. Even if Rosemary Johnson didn’t open the speaker, the conversation between her and Jack Lewis was word by word transmitted to Charles Hockley's ears. The low yet hot lingering words made his face sink heavily.

Charles started to shift gears and stepped on the gas pedal, and suddenly the speed was raised. The sudden speed-up startled Rosemary.

She turned her head, and saw Charles lit a cigarette with one hand. The expression on his face was dim, uncertain of what he was thinking at the moment.

"Jack, I'll talk to you when I get home." Rosemary hung up quickly and held on to the car handle.

She was most afraid of Charles when he was driving, especially when speechlessly.

There was a dead silence in the car. It was so quiet that even the sound of a needle dropping in the carriage could be heard clearly.

Unsure of how long it took, the carriage sounded the man’s icy voice.

"Rosemary, do you know how long you have been away?"

Rosemary was quiet.

After a long awkwardness, she replied, "Seven years."

"2555 days and four hours!"

Charles added to her reply, thin lips spit out a circle of smoke. The smoke spread around the carriage, into Rosemary's nose, letting her choke.

Charles glanced at her coldly, "Did Jack Lewis finally stabilize in S City and you decided to come back?"

"How long I left and why I came back seems to have nothing to do with you, Mr. Hockley!"

Rosemary began to frown. She didn't like his sharp and sarcastic words as before. When he spoke, there was something provocative about it always.

"Have noting , to do , with, me?” Charles repeated word by word.

He seems to have heard some funny words. With the cool and pleasant voice, the back of his hand holding the steering wheel, the blue veins were emerging.

He stepped on the brake force fiercely, Rosemary did not have time to guard against it, and her whole body was habitually forward with inertia.

When she almost swoop onto the front glass window, a big hand pulled her back. Rosemary hit the back seat heavily.

With a cry of pain, Rosemary heard the sharp and hurtful voices seemingly coming from the distant sky:
