Chapter 88 This Rebellious Child Is Quite Defiant

The driver felt as if the car he was driving was slightly trembling. For a moment, he was worried whether it was a vehicle safety issue.

Who would have thought that the bystanders were holding back their laughter só hard they were almost going mad.

Does he assume everyone else is as love–struck as he is? He even has the audacity to think that his marriage proposal is a favor, something Danielle has beent dreaming of. No wonder he’s so upset when he gets rejected.

The Quirk family thought, “Goodness me, hold it in, this child is so rebelliously defiant!”

The issue is that she has stopped responding, yet he remains oblivious to the problem. He thinks that Danielle’s love is too humble, too invested in his career, and that she doesn’t dare to face the opportunity he has bestowed upon her to spend the rest of her life with him.

The Quirk family thought, “Too humble? Hahaha.”

What is even more amusing is that he genuinely wants to get married. He feels that he shouldn’t let Mirabelle lead him around by the nose anymore, and instead, he should find Danielle, who loves him without reservation. So even without a planned proposal on stage, he has already accepted Danielle as his fiancée. 

“Does Danielle know that she has been forced to join in your peculiar games?”

The Quirk family thought, “Enough, enough, you’re going to make us die of laughter.”

No one could hold back their laughter, but they were afraid to make a sound. So, they quickly jumped in to follow up on Christopher’s recent remarks, expressing their doubts about the relationship between the two.

“But what if Danielle believes him… could she end up being deceived?” Rosalie expressed her concern. “After all, it’s a heartfelt confession from someone she’s known for so many years.”

I’m not sure, I can only blame Danielle for not having the all–seeing eye, else she would have slapped the lunatic a long time ago.

After all, seeing Maverick endure the ruthless betrayal and abandonment, suffering through such pain, repeatedly seeking revenge on Mirabelle, never taking the initiative to reach out in five years, and always expressing his hatred, Danielle, who is immune to love, would never expect him to be a masochist.

Her feelings for Maverick were indeed profound, which is why she found herself truly uncertain about the sincerity of his confession. 

Upon hearing this, everyone immediately began to worry for Danielle. What if this clever girl, in a moment of soft–heartedness, was deceived…

But honestly, she doesn’t care about the truth. All Danielle wants is for Maverick to work diligently for her without causing any trouble.

Ifhe does like her, she considers herself lucky. At least it’s something she can manage, far better than lingering feelings for Mirabelle, which would only cause trouble and jeopardize his future. She wouldn’t have to bother with damage control. 

Right now is a critical time for them. She wishes she could metaphorically crack a whip at Maverick, urging him to focus on preparing for their performance. Matters of love, marriage, all of it needs to be put on hold. Once everything is finished, then they can properly hash it out. She doesn’t want to stir up any unnecessary drama in the meantime, which would only cause her trouble.

Upon hearing this, Alexander suddenly spoke up. “Danielle is highly professional and ambitious, so she wouldn’t concern herself with matters of the heart. Moreover, this period indeed is the most crucial.”

“Because of the transition?” Christopher asked.

With a sense of resignation, Alexander glanced at Christopher. “Don’t you pay any attention to what’s happening in our industry? Danielle is currently in a high- stakes gamble with their company, with Maverick by her side. She’s trying to strike out on her own, to establish her own agency. That’s why she can’t afford any setbacks right now.”

It finally dawned on everyone why Maverick’s proposal wasn’t immediately clarified by Danielle. She didn’t want to distract him from the task at hand. She was. using a delaying tactic, fearing that any sudden shock could cause a disruption at a crucial time.

Everyone immediately breathed a sigh of relief, but at the same time, they were inexplicably amused. What was that all about?

Logically speaking, Maverick was definitely aware of what Danielle had done. Despite the fact that she was genuinely concerned about his future, all he had on his mind now was love and romance.

When Maverick saw Hendrick and Mirabelle together, he decided to spend the night at Danielle’s place that very evening. However, Danielle ended up making him several cups of coffee, and they spent the whole night discussing script issues.

Despite everything that had happened, Maverick surprisingly thought that Danielle was lacking self–confidence. He believed she was afraid that his feelings for her weren’t genuine, which is why she didn’t dare to let herself fall for him! 

In the morning, Maverick arrived at the office for a meeting, dark circles prominent under his eyes. Someone teased, “Where did you go play last night instead of resting?” Maverick replied that he hadn’t gone anywhere, he had been at Dani’s house. Partly, it was to return the favor to Hendrick and Mirabelle for their constant pairing, and partly to give Danielle confidence. However, deep down, which reason was true and which was false, even the Gossip System couldn’t provide an answer. After all, the human heart is hard to predict.

However, his actions had tainted what was once a straightforward relationship between the
