Harvey York's Rise to Power novel Chapter 244

“Nia, you’re shameless! If you want to put up a show, go ahead. No one will stop you. But why did you have to talk about Mandy? Is it amusing for you?” Angel was furious. “This is a gathering, not a place for you to show off your acting skills!”

“Hey! Why are you so angry? Could it be that you’re charmed by my Jamie? You can’t accept that I have such an excellent husband, so you’re jealous of me, aren’t you? Is that why you couldn’t hold yourself back and tried to find fault with me?” Nia said, grinning. She even leaned on Jamie on purpose.

“You…” Angel was so angry that she trembled. She couldn’t even breathe properly.

Seeing that her best friend was being bullied, Mandy couldn’t hold herself back anymore. She strode forward and said slowly, “Nia, we’re classmates. Besides, today is a gathering. Why do you have to say such things?”

Nia turned to Mandy with a faint smile “Mandy, are you upset with me? Is that why you asked your dog to come and bite me? If that’s the case, why don’t you ask your live-in husband to come and perform for us? If he can play even a children’s song, I’ll take back what I said. I’ll even apologize to your dog!”

“But let’s not ask your husband to play. I think it’s better if we ask him to go and play with cotton candy…”

A roar of laughter resounded.

Everyone burst into amused titters. What Nia said was right. How could a live-in son-in-law know how to play the piano? What a preposterous joke! One couldn’t play a complete song on the piano without any professional training in their early days.

“Nia, don’t cross the line!” Mandy was trembling in anger. Nia had insulted her best friend, going so far as to call Angel a dog. The woman was clearly overstepping her boundaries.

“Why? Are you mad? If you are, ask your live-in husband to perform for us. If you can’t, don’t act stubborn!” Nia was filled with contempt. “You even mentioned that your future husband must be a charming pianist! To hell with your wishful thinking!”

“You…” Mandy was so furious, she became speechless. Subconsciously, her gaze fell on Harvey and her eyes dulled. ‘How is it possible that my husband knows how to play the piano? I’ll definitely be humiliated today.’

Harvey, who had kept quite all this while, stepped forward all of a sudden. He shielded Mandy behind him and said coldly, “Since when can one pretend to be a pianist by playing a recorded track?”

At first, Harvey was unbothered if Jamie wanted to put on a show. He could just let it be. Yet Nia and her husband acted recklessly and bullied Mandy. They were out of line.

Now that she was under doubt, Nia felt slightly nervous. She said swiftly, “F*ck! What do you know? You’re just a live-in son-in-law! My husband may not be an expert pianist, but how can you say his playing is fake? Look at us! What family do we belong to? Do we need to pretend about something like this? Wouldn’t we just be looking for trouble?”

“That’s right! Nia’s husband is so exceptional, and he’s noble too. It’s natural that he knows how to play the piano, right?”

“Nia never boasts about the fact that her husband can play the piano. She doesn’t need to put on a show like this!”

“This live-in son-in-law is so shabby and poor. How can he understand the arts? What a joke!”

“Ridiculous!”

In that instant, many began to condemn Harvey. ‘Just one glance can tell how disgusting this live-in son-in-law is. Yet, he has the guts to insult people? How humiliating!’
