Heart Hunting novel Chapter 142

Hilda kept Ethel behind her, pretending to be calm, “What do you want?”

Poppy laughed shortly and took out two boxes of ANP form her bag swaying in front of Hilda and then threw them on the tea table, “These are my gifts for you in case you be raged to death. I’d love to keep you longer for more fun.” She looked at Ethel and blinked at her maliciously, “You’ve got your share too.”

“Bitch!”Ethel was so angry but could do nothing but cursed at her.

Hilda was so infuriated that she tried to slap Poppy but was stopped by Poppy instantly. Poppy sneered, “Oh, i forgot to remind you. Kenny is my boyfriend. Don’t you dare to touch me. I can have Green Company closed in any minute.” She really meant it. Hilda couldn’t do anything about it.

“Poppy Green!” Hilda said angrily.

“Don’t fly off the handle, Hilda. I wouldn’t like it if you just die of anger,” Poppy said coldly with a scary look.

Hilda wished she could kill Poppy right now. She pushed the pills on the tea table to the floor and shouted at Poppy, “Get out!”

“Phew! Dad has told me to visit frequently. I don’t like your ‘hospitality’...” She was not eager to leave and looked at Ethel from head to toe, “and you, my dear elder sister.”

“Mom!” Ethel was so scared that she couldn’t even talk.

Hilda kept Ethel behind her, “Poppy, don’t you dare to touch my daughter.”

“Huh? Let’s wait and see.” She looked at them coldly and then walked towards the door. Suddenly, she turned around and said looking at them profoundly, “Don’t forget the ANP. They can save you in case of emergency.”

“Bitch, get out of here!” Hilda said furiously and threw a cup at her.

Poppy caught the cup and threw it backwards. The cup broke into pieces instantly. She pointed at the pieces and said to them like a curse, “When I’m done playing with you. That’s how you end up.”

Hilda was so infuriated but she couldn’t do anything but watch her leave with arrogance.

Ethel was scared to crying. She asked, sobbing, “Mom, what should we do?”

Hilda was more annoyed with her daughter’s crying and yelled at her, “Shut up! You can do nothing but cry. If you were half as clever as that bitch, i wouldn’t have been so troubled.”

It was getting dark and lights were on.

After Poppy left the Greens’ home in the afternoon, she went to visit her mom’s tomb. It had become dark when she was back in her apartment. It was also getting cool as autumn was around the corner. She had been to a few places today. It was a tough day but she had never been so happy. She had come back to win everything.

When she reached the floor she lived, she took out her keys, getting hold of the handle and the door was pushed open which surprised her. She stepped backwards and found the lock had been picked. Had it been visited by thieves? She became cautious and walked inside carefully. She pressed the button but the lights were not on. When she was at the hallway looking towards the living room, she found a large heart of lighting candles which could hardly light up the living room where there were ribbons and flowers. She was confused at all this. Suddenly, someone walked up behind her. She quickly turned around and found it was Kenny holding a small cake with candles which lighted up his face.

He said tenderly, “Happy Birthday!”

Poppy looked in doubt. It was her birthday?

Kenny looked at her and felt pity for her, “You forget your birthday, don’t you?”

Poppy looked at him lost. Yes. She did forget her birthday which she hadn’t celebrated for more than 10 years.

Kenny asked her to leave anything else behind and watch his majestic performance. Poppy laughed with doubt, “What kind of majestic performance is it?”

Kenny counted three and started to sing, “Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you...”

That Kenny was singing happy birthday was a total surprise to Poppy who thought it to be childish. It was the first time Poppy heard Kenny singing and she was quite impressed with his singing. It was so pleasing although unaccompanied. He was born to be a singer.

Poppy watched his performance silently with emotions. She had never been so moved. Oh, how should she comment on such a man who had risked his own life for her and prepared such a romantic birthday ceremony for her?

After Kenny finished his singing, Poppy couldn’t help laughing out loud spoiling the fun, “Kenny, you look so stupid.”

Kenny was kind of upset, “It took me a long time to prepare all this. All i get is that I look stupid?”

Poppy kept silent but her eyes was telling him that he did look stupid. She regretted not recording down his funny performance just now.

“Make a wish and blow out the candles. Hurry up! I don’t want to keep holding the cake like an idiot.” Kenny was so sad that his truthful and meaningful arrangement turned out to be stupid to Poppy.
