Chapter 461 

Laura glanced at the newspaper before continuing to put on her earrings, “Who said it was Agnes who made it public?” 

“Who else if not Agnes?” 

Beatrice seemed to have an epiphany, “Mum, don’t tell me it was you who broke the secret.” 

Laura shot her a look but didn’t answer, seemingly admitting it by her silence. 

Beatrice was pissed off, “Why didn’t you tell me? Now that you’ve spilled it, what am I supposed to do? You said as long as we had this secret, we could use it as leverage to make the Whitfield family agree to let Jared marry me. Mum, you’ve burned all my bridges! Are you just leaving me in the dust because you’re with that rich guy now?” 

Mentioning this made Laura angry, she slammed the table, “Everything I’ve done, I did it for you!” 

Laura’s outburst quieted Beatrice down considerably, “Then why would you reveal the secret? Without this card to play, how am I supposed to marry Jared and become Mrs. Whitfield?” 

Laura sighed, “Beatrice, there are plenty of good men in the world, I promise you, I’ll find you a man a hundred times better than Jared. Let go of Jared, do you think you’ll be happy forcing yourself to marry him? And would he accept you? Even if you use the secret to secure the position of Mrs. Whitfield, Jared will still see you as a thorn in his side. I don’t want you to live in misery.” 

Hearing Laura say this, Beatrice felt even more down. 

She pulled her hand out of Laura’s grip, “No, I want Jared. I won’t marry anyone else in this lifetime. I don’t care, I want to be Mrs. Whitfield. As long as he marries me, he’ll grow to love me, I’ll treat him so well, Mum, please, I beg you, help me.” 

Laura looked at her daughter’s stubbornness and felt helpless. 

She sighed again, “Marrying him isn’t entirely impossible. Now that the secret is out, and Alyssa attempted suicide, the Whitfield family must be in chaos. I played a trick and made everyone think it was Agnes who made it public. Do you think the Whitfield family will still stand by her? Even if they do, there’s no way she’ll overlook her mother’s death and reconcile with Jared. Once they’re done, you’ll have your chance to fill the vacancy.” 

Beatrice seemed somewhat reassured by this.
