The calm, emotionless tone of the electronic voice made Hank's heart skip a beat.
Perhaps since Zank had been sickly since childhood and rarely received championship, he'd rarely shown intimacy or recognition toward anyone around him other than Thalia.
But now… He was saying he couldn't let go of Hank, his little brother.
Hank's ears twitched slightly before his face lit up with glee.
Zane might not have noticed, but from Shannon's angle, Hank's smirk was obvious and uncontrollable.
Hearing Zane's answer, Simeon showed a brief flicker of regret in his eyes, but he didn't press further.
Meeting someone with such deep sacred affinity at Mossroot Monastery was a rare and special fate. But if that person wasn't meant to stay and cultivate in the monastery, it simply meant their affinity had yet to mature.
Zenyoism never forced.
Alex opened his mouth and was about to argue when Shannon stepped forward. At once, he flinched and instinctively took a big step back in wariness.
Watching his reaction, Shannon said in a calm, unhurried voice, "One of the Five Maxims of Zenyoism is to refrain from false speech. You've violated it, Uncle Alex."
Alex was utterly speechless. He'd just been making arrangements for his son's future; how the hell did that count as breaking a maxim?
But no one paid him any more attention.
Simeon acted as though he hadn't heard any of it and turned away to lead Shannon and the others deeper into the monastery.
Alex was left behind and ignored, but Hank had a plan. Once they returned, he was going to tattle to Adam and George!
…
Simeon led them into one of the Zenyoism Sanctums. After placing his hands together in prayer, he bowed to the Zenyo statue before walking to the base of the incense altar. Then, he retrieved a pouch from beneath the altar.
