Shannon had mentally prepared herself for Alex to blurt out something like "She can't stay as long as I'm in this house."
But now wasn't the same as when she'd first returned. Now, she had a solid footing in the house and earned her sense of belonging. She wouldn't be rattled by anything Alex said or pack and leave just because he made a scene.
If Alex wanted to leave, let him. It had nothing to do with her anyway.
After all, it was Elowen who caused all that mess; what did it have to do with her?
She refused to believe that Alex would stick to his plans of becoming a monk.
Seeing Shannon and Benjamin return, George's face softened into a warm smile. "Shannon, back from your date with Benjamin?"
The two showing up together did look like they'd just been out on a date.
Shannon and Benjamin exchanged a glance and didn't deny it. They'd been out dealing with some aftermath, and that was kind of considered a date too.
Then, George cast a side glance at Alex, who'd been cowering back ever since Shannon walked in. Ignoring him, he turned back to Benjamin and said, "Sorry you had to witness that drama."
Benjamin's expression didn't change as he calmly replied, "We're a family. No such thing as drama."
That one line softened Adam's stern expression and spread a wide smile across George's face.
Back when everyone had forgotten Shannon, only Benjamin had remembered. He'd even gone as far as to hold a wedding without a bride.
Once the truth came to light, everyone in the family felt regretful and had been waiting for the right time to host another wedding. Now seemed like the perfect moment.
Everyone's attention was suddenly shifted away, leaving Alex completely dumbfounded. But remembering his resolve, he quickly turned around and marched off to his room.
He was leaving! Today, no less!
