Her Majesty novel Chapter 43

I followed Mayor Chang to his study, where the dim light made his face look unruffled.

Mayor Chang picked up a book "Strategize" at will, and then turned his head to ask me, “Justin, sorry about Housin."

My heart ached at the mention of the matter, and I lowered my head so that he would not see the anger on my face, and whispered, "Godfather, it's all right. I don't want to talk about that anymore."

Mayor Chang looked at me with bright eyes and said, "I know you're still thinking about revenge, but it's not the right time. Wait, wait."

I whispered, "I know, godfather."

"Well, I'm glad you think so." A smile came over Mayor Chang's face and he asked me, "Who is in charge, you or Ben Lau?"

I stood still for a moment and thought about what he meant when he asked me. Then I said with great care, "We are good friends. We discuss everything. Well, he'll listen to me when the chips are down."

Mayor Chang smiled faintly and said softly, “Friends? Justin, you are still too young. There is no one who deserves your trust, neither Ben Lau nor I. Do you know why I recognized you as my god son?”

It was a very informative sentence, and I didn't get over it, but I also knew that Mayor Chang's question was sure to go on, so I honestly said, "In fact, I know that your acceptance of me as your adopted son is more than just appreciation for me. The underlying reason is still unknown to me."

Mayor Chang laughed and said, "You are a straight-talker, just like me when I was young. Fortunately, I am not a brown-noser, otherwise you would have offended me with that remark."

I smiled shyly and said, "I have to get more guidance from the godfather later."

Mayor Chang thought carefully and said slowly, "Actually, the reason why I was transferred to S city is because here is the private bank of Jacob Jiang. He used to be a mayor here for three years, and many cadres were promoted by him. The leaders wanted to take him down, but they had no proof. I'm here to gather evidence."

My heart gave a start and I felt as if I was in the middle of a higher struggle.

But Last night I was labeled Mayor Chang, and now it's too late to back out.

I vaguely knew why Mayor Chang wanted to take me as his god son, he was going to tie me tightly to his chariot and use me as a pawn. The joy of support from him just now slowly faded and was replaced by a faint bitterness.

Mayor Chang looked down at me and said nothing. He asked me kindly, “What's the matter? Do you think I'm using you?”

I hastened to say, “No, no, I and Housin have been enemies. Without you, I will fight with him to the end, but with you, I will be more confident.”

Mayor Chang gave me a deep look and said with a wry smile, "You think highly of me. I am basically being put on the empty seat and my orders are being ignored by others. I'm afraid I can't help you."

I was surprised, but still said, “It is ok, as long as we behave well, I believe there will be good people in this world."
