Calista’s chest tightened when she saw that her stepmother was full of confidence.
It seemed like Yelena was getting one of her backers to help her and things were getting interesting. But Calista wasn’t sure if it was going to be the head of the Langleys, or that person…
But this was a small matter and so Yelena probably wouldn’t look for that person, so it was probably the head of the Langleys.
After calculating the odds, Calista quickly texted Jarrett.
The car reached the police station very quickly, but they weren’t able to see Jonathan immediately because there were others seeing him at the moment.
The police officers were very puzzled by this, “Who is this Jonathan Larkin? It’s only been a while since we caught him and there are already three or four parties trying to see him.”
Calista overheard their comments and had a bad feeling about things, but then she quickly relaxed again.
If Yelena had gotten the head of the Langleys to threaten Jonathan, then Jarrett’s appearance would be enough to make Jonathan stay on her side. Plus, she had that thumb drive with her, so she was definitely going to win this case.
Benedict pulled a glum face and didn’t say anything, and he was quieter than usual. Recently his elder daughter had given him a terrible headache, and his younger daughter’s plight had given him heartache. He too, wished that this whole thing wasn’t Callie’s doing, but Yelena was also right in saying that Callie was ill and one couldn’t judge her thoughts like a normal person.
Calista saw that all three of them weren’t talking, so she smiled coldly and walked out.
She was about to give Jarrett a call when suddenly she was dragged into a storeroom and pushed hard onto the floor.
Calista got a shock and wanted to scream, but before she could do that, someone squeezed his hands around her neck, ready to strangle her.
Even with just one look, she knew who it was and her eyes widened. She didn’t think Yelena dared to find this person to help!
But that didn’t sound right. If Yelena had looked for him, he would have simply sent anyone to help, and not this particular man.
“Calista…?”
The other party’s voice was as cold as a venomous snake, and Calista’s strength had not returned fully to her. No…even if she had recovered completely, she was no match for this man.
“Do you know why I’ve come looking for you?”
He asked mockingly, his hands squeezing her neck tightly, as if he was going to strangle her to death but left a small bit of air for her to keep living.
Calista’s feet were slowly lifted off the ground. Her struggling was futile and her brain was slowly losing oxygen. She didn’t want to use the needle in her hand because she was counting on him to not kill her, and she couldn’t expose her abilities too early on.
As expected, the man suddenly let go of her and smoothed his clothes down.
Calista was suddenly able to breathe again, and she collapsed on the floor panting. She glared back at this man, her eyes full of intense hatred.
“Come to think of it, you don’t know who I am, so let me introduce myself.” The man smiled slightly, as if he was a real gentleman.
“My name is Sterling Wolford. I’m not sure if you’ve heard of the Wolford family in Summerbank?”
Calista was panting while smiling coldly. Of course she knew which Wolford family he was talking about, and she even knew why he was helping Yelena.
Sterling looked down pitifully at Calista. To him, the Staffords were small fry.
“Do you know why I’ve dragged you here? I didn’t want to either, but you tried to harm something I like, and I happened to be in Horington, so I thought I’d drop by to teach you a lesson, so that you learn who you can touch, and who you can’t.”
Haha! Something he likes!
Calista’s eyes were bloodshot, and she smiled threateningly.
