Seeing Winnie quickened her pace, Brian ran after her and stopped her.
“Winwin...”
He looked sorry and worried.
"Don't be grumpy. Let's get back in the car."
Brian took Winnie's hand and said in a less cold tone.
"Let go, we have nothing to say to each other, and I can't stand your strange temper."
No one could stop Winnie's temper. She shook off Brian's hand and went on.
"Winwin. It's cold outside. The temperature is even lower in the mountains. You are ill and you can’t get cold.”
Brian once again stood in front of Winnie. Looking at her angry face, he regretted that he had not control his temper and his jealousy.
"Mr. Bennet, don’t show me your concern when you see me sick. Even if I die in front of you, you have to do ignore me. I would rather die of illness than need your care."
"I am fine, and I need no one to take care of me. Mr. Bennet, it's Wendy you should take care of, not me."
Brian's care for Winnie was a kind of pressure. And she could not accept his inexplicable temper.
Brian made her feel that when he helped her, she had to unconditionally bear his sudden madness. But Winnie thought it hurt her self-esteem.
Winnie had a sharp tone. No matter what, she could not listen to Brian's sarcasm, could not be ignored by him.
She walked on around Brian.
"Winwin, don't do that. You're still ill. Take care."
Brian followed and kept explaining.
"Winwin, it is my fault, don’t take it seriously."
As Brian's voice fell, he again caught up with Winnie. No matter what, he would not give Winnie way.
"You say it every time. You can be sarcastic. You can be indifferent. But I've made it clear to you that you should at least respect me. I have not a strong family background, I have no authority, I don't even have parents, but that doesn't mean you can treat me whatever you want to do and say whatever you want to say."
"Although I have nothing, at least I have given you two children. Can you respect me for the sake of the children?"
Winnie was angry and felt bitter in heart. Every time Brian treated her like this, she was especially wronged, wanted to cry and lost hope.
However, she endured it, even if she shed tears, she was still stubborn.
"Winwin, I did not mean it, but seeing that you were with another man, I felt..."
"How did you fell? Do you like me? Do you like me so you don't like me to be with other men?"
Winnie interrupted Brian in time and continued to speak.
"It is impossible. You said you didn't like me, and I'll remember that as long as I live, and that's why I control myself."
Winnie gave the answer to her questions, because she was afraid that she could not take it if Brian said it out.
"Brian, since you don't like me, you think my character is bad when you see me with another man, and you insult me with those words."
"I want to tell you that my poor character is none of your business. Get out of the way, or we won't even be friends."
Winnie said angrily, feeling disappointed to Brian.
She really wanted to break off all contacts with him. She did not want to be scorned by him again and again. It seemed a mistake to choose to be friends with him.
He looked down upon her. All he did was to yell at her. What did she do wrong to upset him? He did not like anything she said or did. She tried to be a fool in front of him, but he still vent his anger on her.
"You are in a state of agitation, and you won't listen to what I say. Come back with me, and I will let you go when you are well. And I promise you that it will never happen again."
Brian had no words to say, he could not tell her that he loved her, and even if he told her, she would not believe it.
"I can't tell you how many times you've promised me that. I'm tired of hearing it. Don't detain me. What's the use of wearying you with me?"
Brian refused to give way, so Winnie had to bypass him again.
But Brian backed away and blocked her way. After repeating several times, Winnie lost patience and began to shout loudly.
"What do you want? Will you kill me? Will you be satisfied if I jump off this hill?"
Brian did have these thoughts to Winnie, so his rebuttal was so insignificant.
"Yes, yes, don’t deny it. If you respected me, you would have lost your temper with me. If you didn't take me as a cheater, you would not guard against me. You are suspicious, but only of me. What have you to quibble about?"
Winnie shouted with hysteria, and she suddenly pushed Brian away.
Brian had too many doubts about her, and he lost his temper for no reason and had broken her heart for many times.
Brian still wanted to quibble, but it no longer had any sense.
"Brian, I don’t understand what I have done wrong. I did not disturb your life, I did not pester you, but you felt sick of me, why?"
Winnie was very painful. In addition to work, she only had her family. She had tried her best to avoid Brian, why he still tortured her?
“Winwin...”
Brian was sad. Listening to Winnie’s complaints, he had no reason to refute. He only hurt her.
He reached out his hand and was to take Winnie in his arms again for comfort, but she retreated two steps.
“Don't touch me, I will dirty your hands. Leave me alone, if you stop me from leaving, I'll jump off this hill."
With that, Winnie walked toward the roadside. She was not to frighten him, but at the moment she did not want to live and wanted to end her life.
When her parents died and she was in debt, she had never felt so desperate or so miserable. But now she was tortured by this man, and she wanted to end everything.
"Don't, Winwin, you can go."
Brian was afraid. Looking at Winnie's eyes, Brian was really afraid.
He could bear not to be with her, but he could not bear her leaving his world.
Crying, Winnie continued to walk down the mountain, quickly, trying to disappear into the darkness as fast as she could and from Brian's sight.
She walked quickly, with the tears flowing down.
It was unrequited affection. She was an ordinary woman, why did she encounter such torture? She didn’t want to love Brian, but she could not help.
