It seemed that every piece of money Brian gave Winnie had shame written on it.
Winnie did not adopt the opinions of Brian and Daenerys. She felt that she was not that weak and did not need to stop her work. If it had not been for Brian's irritation and for her own indisposition, she would not have fainted.
And she was a busy person. If she recuperated at home, her family would be more worried.
Winnie went to work the day she and Brian parted. She did not need sympathy, especially from Brian. She wanted to prove to Brian that she lived a wonderful life without him, and that she could take good care of her two children without him.
Wendy minded that Brian told a lie. She tried to find the whereabouts of Brian, but she failed, and she was not sure whether he was with Winnie.
Whenever Wendy was in trouble, the person she remembered was Klara.
Taking advantage of the rest at noon, Wendy asked Klara out.
"Wendy, you are frowning, did Mr. Bennet annoy you again?"
Klara asked with concern. The distress on Wendy's face was obvious, even a fool could see that.
"Yeah, I'm annoyed. I called you the other day and you said he was on vacation."
Wendy said with a listless voice.
"Yeah, everyone in the company knows that he was on vacation."
Klara felt that there was nothing wrong. And the news came from Brian's secretary.
"But when I called him, he said he had been busy with work and couldn't see me. Can I trust him? Can I not be annoyed? I always wondered if he was with Winnie, so he hid it from me."
Wendy put her doubts out. She took Klara as a friend and she could say anything to her.
"Why didn't you say it earlier? If you doubt it, I can ask my friend if Winnie goes to work, and we can know if they are together."
Klara had not thought Brian's vacation was false, but he lied with Wendy must have a problem.
"I'm sorry to bother you all the time. I thought if I did my own research I might find a clue that they were together, but I couldn't find Brian in two days. He disappeared off the face of the earth."
Wendy was uneasy these days and had not had a sound sleep.
She regretted now that she had come back late. But she could not give up and must have Brian with her.
"We learned the news that Mr. Bennet took three days off, but he was back at work in two days. I can ask my friend if Winnie went to work these two days?"
Klara had been working for Brian for several years, so she knew him well. Except that he would lose his temper sometimes, the rest was very regular.
He took three days off and but he was back in two days, but there was nothing urgent in the company, so it must be related to private matter.
"Klara, sorry to bother you again. Can you ask her now?"
Wendy was eager to know the answer now, because she did not want to be in torture.
"Wait a minute. She's on break at this hour. I'll call her."
Then Klara took out the phone and called her friend directly.
"Laura, are you at work today?"
"Yes. I've just come back from lunch. You're resting at this hour, right?"
The person called Laura was Klara's friend. They originally lived in a community. Hearing that Klara was the president's personal secretary, Laura had been clung to Klara, thinking that one day she could work in the Bennet Group.
"Yes, I'm resting, too. Laura, I want to ask you something."
Klara went straight to the point.
"Ok, I'll tell you what I know."
"Did Winnie go to work these days?
Klara waited for Laura's answer.
Laura was sitting at her desk and could see Winnie through her transparent office.
Since the topic was Winnie, it was necessary keep her voice down to avoid being overheard by Winnie.
"Wait for me. I'll talk to you outside."
She got up and took a look at Winnie again. But Winnie was also looking at her.
Laura felt nervous and then nodded towards Winnie and went out with her mobile phone.
Although Winnie felt that Laura's behavior was different from usual, and the panic in her eyes was obvious, she did not think much of it.
Laura came to the stairwell of the safe passage, and made sure no one was there before she spoke.
