S2 68. No More Chance
Paul stepped back, pulling his legs out of Melanie’s grip.
“Is there any reason for me to still love you? Barbara is embarrassed to death of you. You are a criminal with mental disorders. You even almost killed our daughter.”
Melanie’s chin twitched. Her hands pounded her chest as if punishing
herself.
“I didn’t mean to, Paul. I wanted to threaten that man. He was trying to get close to our daughter. He even wanted to take Barbara away from me.”
“It wasn’t him who took Barbara from you, but Barbara who no longer wants to be by your side. She’s an adult. She knows what’s better for her life.”
Melanie sighed in disbelief. “You’re defending that bastard?”
“I’ve met him. He’s a good boy. He can take care of Barbara and make her happy too.”
our
“But he’s poor and disgusting! How could you give up daughter fo him? Barbara should get a rich businessman husband!”
Suddenly, Paul snorted with laughter. “You call someone who has an apartment unit and one billion in savings a poor person?”
Melanie gasped. Tears froze at the edge of her eyes. She knew Philip had also gotten an apartment, but not with that much money.
“Is there another will?”
“That’s the fruit of his own hard work. He’s Frank’s confidant, has
three positions, and lives a simple life. It’s natural that he has that
much assets.”
While Melanie was stunned, Paul smiled sarcastically. “He’s not the type of person who expects benefits from other people. I’m grateful that Barbara chose him. That man can neutralize your bad impact on
her.”
Melanie gasped at that statement. “You said your wife was a bad influence?”
Paul shrugged. “That’s the truth. And for the same reason, my decision to part with you is even more firm.”
Paul took another step back. “Good bye, Melanie. Thank you for our time together.”
“What do you mean?” Melanie’s face suddenly aged several years. You came here to pick me up, right? You couldn’t possibly bear to let your wife languish in here.”
Paul grabbed the doorknob. His eyes were full of pity. “There’s no more chance, Melanie. My love for you is gone.”
“Impossible! You even kept my secret. If you didn’t love me anymore, you would have spread the evidence. I would have ended up in pr not here!”
“You still think I kept the evidence?” Paul raised an eyebrow. A si laugh escaped his crooked smile. “How could I get that evidence, Melanie? I’m not that great. So tell your people to stop searching n things. They’ll never find the evidence.”
Melanie’s mouth opened wide. She shook her head refusing to believe
“Impossible! You can’t be lying.”
Paul nodded slightly. “Good bye, Melanie.”
He came out and the officers immediately locked the door. Melanie was left alone, sitting on the floor like an idiot.
“I was tricked by him? I went through all this because I was afraid of his bluff?”
While pulling her own hair, Melanie started laughing. “I lost the gold. because I believed that lie? I lost it all because I fell for his words?”
Melanie could not control the turmoil in her chest anymore. She started screaming, venting all the stress in her mind. Tears never stopped streaming down her face.

“Philip! Close your eyes!”
Philip quickly hushed. “Don’t shout. We could be reprimanded by the nurse again.”
“But you promised not to peek!” Barbara hit Philip’s chest.
The man who was holding her dress laughed. “Okay, okay.”
He bent down again, widening the opening of the dress so that Barbara could enter more easily.
With red cheeks, Barbara held his shoulder. As quickly as poss she put her legs into the dress.
“Okay, lift it slowly.”
Philip smiled. Straightening his back, he brought the dress past Barbara’s hips.
“Now what?” Philip rested his hands on her curves. His eyes were closed. However, he knew the girl was holding her breath.
“You have to help me put my hands into the sleeves,” Barbara muttered haltingly. Philip guessed, her heart was beating fast.
“Philip!”
The man gasped. “What?”
“Be careful with your hands. You’re almost touching-” Barbara held back. “My bandages.”
Philip almost laughed. “Sorry. My eyes were closed. I didn’t know. where your hands were.”
“Here.”
Barbara held out her left hand. Philip slipped it into the sleeve of the dress easily.
“What about the right hand? We have to open your arm sling first, right?”
Barbara blinked worriedly. She was afraid every time her right arm was left free. She thought that her shoulder was not strong enough.
Yes.”
Philip let out a quick sigh. Relaxingly, he opened his eyes and reached for the arm sling lock. Barbara stared wide eyed at his act.
“Philip! Don’t look at me! I can open it myself.” She covered his with her palm.
Unexpectedly, Philip dodged and looked straight into her eyes. “Ir don’t understand. We are lovers. Why are you still shy?”
“Lovers, not husband and wife. You can’t touch or see my body ye
“We’ve kissed a few times.”
“But that’s different!” Barbara widened her eyes, trying to look fierce even though her heart was shaking. Close your eyes again!”
Philip shook his head. “I’ve even changed your bandages, several times. You said you’re more embarrassed by the nurse than me. And
I’ve also accompanied you to the toilet.”

“At that time I was still wearing clothes. Now? Only half!”
