S2 81. On the Cloud Nine
“By the way, what do we have for breakfast?” Barbara asked awkwardly.
Philip’s heart tingled knowing that she was shy. After putting the glass on the table, he sat next to Barbara. “Are you hungry?”
Barbara swallowed hard. Philip’s tone was too teasing.
“Not really. It’s just that there are no servants here, and I’ve never cooked before. If we want to prepare breakfast, shouldn’t we start cooking earlier?”
“So, you want to cook for me?”
Barbara looked around, trying to suppress her nervousness. But apparently, she was getting more and more flustered. The silence seemed to remind her that there were only the two of them there.
“Y-yes, but you have to be patient. The results may not be tasty.”
Hearing Barbara stammer, Philip felt even more amused. “I don’t mind if your cooking isn’t delicious, but unfortunately… there’s nothing in the refrigerator.”
Barbara’s eyes widened. Her mouth gasped. “Then, should we just order food delivery?”
Suddenly, Philip shifted closer. Barbara’s back suddenly became straighter.
“To be honest,” Philip whispered, “I’m already hungry. I’m used to having breakfast early. If I could, I’d eat now.”
Barbara glanced briefly. Catching Philip’s gentle gaze, her cheeks turned red. “Then what should we do?”

Philip smiled faintly. Slowly, he moved closer to Barbara. “I don’t know what we should do either. Do you have a solution?”
Barbara swallowed hard. Her lips started to tremble. “I-I….”
“Should we take a shower now?”
Barbara’s eyes widened even more. “Take a shower?”
Philip nodded innocently. “To be fresher. Your brother and his wife always do that. They take a shower first before-”
“We’re not married, Philip. We’re not husband and wife.”
“Before breakfast,” Philip finished his sentence in a low tone. After a blink, he furrowed his brows. “I was planning to take you to eat at the 24-hour cafe across the street. As far as I know, the place is quiet and good for privacy. What are you thinking?”
Barbara was stunned. “Oh, I thought….”.
Her face was like a boiled crab. Unable to hold back the turmoil in her chest, she got up from the couch. “Well then, let’s meet in 30 minutes. I’ll get prepared.”
However, just as she was about to take a step, Philip grabbed her wrist. Her heart instantly skipped a beat.
“What else do you want?” Barbara’s vocal strangled.
Philip stood up and cupped her cheek. The girl increasingly felt
helpless.
“I wanted to tell you that this morning felt like a dream for me. I always dreamed of living here with the person I love. You have made that happen. Thank you, Baby.”
Barbara was soon on the cloud nine. Her heart felt light, as if there were no more problems weighing her down. And, when Philip kissed

the back of her hand, she felt like she was the happiest woman in the
world.
“I hope that one day, we can build a household together in this apartment. Every morning, I will be greeted by your face. Every night, I can kiss your forehead. That must be very nice.”
Barbara bit her lip. Her eyes filled with tears. “You sound like you’re proposing to me, Phil.”
Philip smiled wryly. He still had the proposal ring in his pocket. However, the roses and tuxedo were not with him.
“Are you looking forward to that?”
Barbara looked down, not knowing how to answer. Feeling exasperated, Philip kissed her forehead.
“Go take a shower, while I still have some self-control. After that, let’s go have breakfast.”
Barbara nodded. Still with stiff movements, she returned to her room. Philip couldn’t look away at all until the door blocked his sight.
“Tsk, which proposal plan should I use?” he sighed as he narrowed
his eyes.
Suddenly, his phone vibrated. When he read the incoming mes the curve of his lips stretched perfectly.

After taking a shower, Barbara immediately put on her make-up. dress she wore was simple, but beautiful. She was sure that her appearance suited Philip’s taste.
Not only that, she also prepared a hand bag. Her cosmetics, mirror, perfume, and other equipment were put in there. However, when she reached for her phone, she flinched.

The negative comments she received last night had come back to her mind. About Barbara who was selfish and greedy. About a disobedient daughter who didn’t deserve to have fun while her mother
suffered.
“Should I continue with this?”
Barbara’s eyebrows moved down. Her gaze hung. At that moment, the words of the twins and Frank rang in her ears.
“It’s not your fault, Auntie. You don’t need to feel guilty.”
“You don’t have to bear all this alone. It was just a misunderstanding.”
“If you go, things will only get more complicated. We will all be very sad, especially Philip.”
Barbara blinked slowly. Philip’s promises flashed through her mind. Little by little, her face lifted again.
“They’re right. I deserve to be happy too.”
Still with a flat expression, Barbara looked at her phone. After a brief silence, she put it on the table.
“Yeah, I can’t make Philip wait too long.”
After filling her lungs with courage, she stepped out with her
handbag. Her smile no longer held back. However, as soon as she left
the bedroom, she was stunned. Louis and Emily’s bright smiles greeted her.
“Auntie!”
The two toddlers ran and hugged her.
“How are you, Auntie? Are you getting better?”
“We miss you, Auntie.”

From the next room, Frank and Kara waved at her.
Good morning, Sister-in-Law.”
“Morning, Little Sister.”
Barbara’s heart was full of emotions. “Why did you come so early?”
“We came to bring breakfast for you, Auntie. We were afraid you might be hungry.”
