S31 20. A Bait for the Twins
Emily blinked in confusion. Her lips pursed. “Why are you sad,
Sophia? When you have children later, I’m sure they will be amazing, because their mothers are great too!”
Sophia shook her head helplessly. “Don’t you guys know yet? I’ve separated from Finnic. We’re no longer husband and wife.”
“Then, just find a new husband who is better than him. Later you can have good children too,” Louis replied lightly.
“Yes, you can meet another man and remarry, like Grandma Melanie and Mr. Harris. Look! They have a daughter as beautiful as Auntie Barbara.” Emily cupped her cheeks and made a sweet expression.
Sophia’s smile turned stiff. She hoped the twins would ask why, but why were those toddlers thinking forward?
“Finding a husband is not that easy, Kids. Not everyone is as good as your father.” She tried to dig another hole.
“Uncle Jeremy is nice and he’s still single.” Louis nodded confidently.
“Yeah, do you need our help to get close to him? If you two get married, your children will be as cute as us.” Emily tilted her head. Her tone was sweetened.
However, Sophia was untouched. The corners of her lips even
twitched in disgust. Only when she caught a shadow near the door did she quickly let out a bitter laugh. “That will never happen. Jeremy hates me.”
The twins furrowed their eyebrows. “Why?”
“Maybe he thinks I’m deliberately cornering your mother. He thinks I’m the reason Grandma keeps scolding Kara.”

Emily’s face changed. “Uncle Jeremy couldn’t possibly think like that.” “Yes, that’s just your feeling, Sophie. Uncle Jeremy may seem cold and indifferent. But actually, his heart is soft and kind.”
Once again, Sophia shook her head. “It’s not just Jeremy, Barbara and Philip too. They see me as an enemy. My presence is seen as the cause of Grandma’s bad attitude to you.”
“I didn’t know they thought like that” Louis shook his head seriously.
“That’s because they hide it from you. They don’t want you to know that they’re sad.”
Emily tilted her head. “Who’s sad?”
“Barbara and Philip. If their relationship with Grandma is bad, their mission will be hampered. I don’t know for sure what they were talking about at that time. But, Barbara will be very sorry if Philip fails to claim his prize. Do you know about that?”
Louis and Emily exchanged glances. Their blinking eyes conveyed
various meanings.
“Can Sophia know about this?” Louis whispered.
“I don’t think so. Daddy said that we should leave this matter to the adults. We just need to focus on vacation.”
Louis nodded slightly before looking back at Sophia. “Sorry, we don’t
understand that.”
Sophia let out a soft sigh. Her head bowed and her shoulders were heavy.
“I thought you considered me a friend. I thought we were close to each other. Turns out, you also consider me an enemy?”
Emily shook her head swiftly. “It’s not like that, Sophia. You are our

friend. It’s just that we don’t have the right to explain that.”
Sophia looked at the twins through the upper corners of her eyes, pitifully. “If we were friends, you would definitely explain it.”
“Why do you want to know so much?” Louis squinted.
Sophia’s breath faltered for a moment. In her heart, she was amazed by the sharpness of the toddler’s analysis.
“If I know the details of the matter, I can clear up all the misunderstandings and even help your family’s mission. But if not,” she lowered her head again, “I will be treated as an obstacle and enemy forever.”
Emily’s eyebrows moved down. While playing with her own fingers, she glanced at Louis.
“Should we just tell Sophia the general outline?”
Louis’ lips pursed even more. “We promised not to interfere, Emily. You were the one who reminded me earlier.”
“But Sophia is a friend. Who knows, she might have a way out.”
“Yes,” Sophia interrupted, nodding hopefully. “I can mediate between your family and Grandma Diana. You know that she is very close to me, right? I can reconcile you two.”
Silence fell again. After blinking for a while, Louis finally sighed in resignation. “Okay.”
Emily’s eyes lit up. She turned around facing Sophia then took a deep breath.
“Actually, Grandpa Rowan gave Philip a mission. If he can bring our family together with Grandma Diana, he will get a very large
apartment.”
Sophia kept her expression steady. “Only that?”
Louis nodded lazily. “Yeah, only that.
“If his job is just to bring people together, doesn’t that mean he’s finished doing it?”
“I don’t understand either. Maybe it’s because Grandma Diana hasn’t received the gold Grandpa Rowan entrusted to her.” Emily shrugged, confirming the doubt.
Sophia leaned her head forward. “Gold?”
Louis nodded. “Yes, Grandpa Rowan wants to give Grandma a lot of gold. Maybe Grandma has to sign something. Only after that, Philip will be declared valid for completing the task.”
Sophia’s mouth rounded. Her eyes glanced towards the door. The shadow had disappeared from there
“Okay, now I understand. Thank you very much, Louis, Emily. Your information is very useful for me.” She rubbed the twins’ heads then got up. “Now, do you want me to take you to your room? You should be sleeping, right?”
The two toddlers nodded and welcomed her hands.
“Please use this information well, Sophia. Prove that we didn’t trust you wrongly.”
Sophia almost snorted when she heard Louis. “You are still young but you speak like a businessman.”
“Because that’s my dream. I have to practice from now on.”
Sophia laughed lightly. When she arrived in front of the twins’ room, she hugged them. “Good night, Kids. Sweet dreams.”
“Good night, Sophia.”
After patting Sophia’s back and waving, the toddlers entered the
room. They didn’t know that as soon as the door closed, the woman smiled triumphantly.
“Good. Everything went perfectly. Now is the next step.” She turned around then approached Diana’s room.
“Grandma?” She knocked gently. “It’s me, Sophia. Are you asleep?”
Not getting an answer, Sophia checked inside. Finding an empty room, her eyebrows knitted together. “Where is she?”
