S31 51. Problematic Partner
“Why are you so strange? Earlier you showed compulsion, but now you are forcing me to come with you. Are you afraid that your brother
will be angry if he finds out that you have abandoned me in the
middle of the road?”
This time, Jeremy didn’t let Ava off the hook. He caught her other wrist, then stared at her intensely.
“Yes. I don’t want to argue with my brother because of your problematic behavior. Now let’s get in the car.”
Ava snorted in amusement. “If you argue with your brother, it’s your fault. It’s your personality that’s causing the problem, not mine.”
Jeremy snorted tiredly. Without further ado, he lifted Ava onto his shoulders. The girl could not help but gasp.
“Hey! Put me down! I don’t want to share the car with you! I’d rather wait for a taxi than have to deal with your arrogance and accusations.
Ava pushed Jeremy’s back, trying to separate her body from the man. However, Jeremy’s arm was too strong. He brought her to the car door. When she was about to run away, he had already trapped her with both arms. Ava was now sandwiched between the car and the man’s cold gaze.
“Listen to me carefully and don’t look around.”
“What if I don’t want to?”
Just before Ava turned her head, Jeremy grabbed her chin.
“I said don’t look around,” he said firmly with a firm look in his eyes. Ava finally saw the seriousness there.

“Okay,” she sighed, calming her breathing. Her eyes moved around checking every corner she could reach. “What is going on?”
“A car has been following us since earlier.”
Ava checked her memory. “That black car?”
Jeremy nodded. “Yes.”
“I was suspicious before, but I thought the car engine had a problem.”
Jeremy shook his head faintly. “And now, there are two other cars on that side of the road.” He moved his head in the opposite direction.
You still want to wait for a taxi?”
Ava swallowed hard. Tension was now running through her blood.” Who are they?”
“Maybe Sophia’s people or her father’s. I don’t know either. So, right now, get in the car. I’m not Sean or Philip or Frank. I can’t beat them all.”
Ava’s breath hitched. Her hands subconsciously gripped Jeremy’s shirt tightly. “Are they targeting me? I’m the one who ruined Sophia’s plans. Do they want to get rid of me?”
Jeremy felt sorry seeing that pale face. However, instead of quelling her anxiety, he opened the car door and pushed her in.
Ava could only obey. Her face was pale and her brain was paralyzed. Her hands were getting cold at the thought of not being able to touch her mother anymore.
“Mr. Harper, please help me. I don’t want to die yet. I still have to take. care of my mother,” Ava whispered as Jeremy took the seat behind the wheel.
The man glanced at her with one eyebrow furrowed. “You’re suddenly polite because you could only rely on me?”

“Now is not the time to argue, Sir.” Ava shook Jeremy’s arm. Please … don’t let them take me. I want to see my mother.”
Jeremy knitted his eyebrows tighter. “Do you still want to see your mother in this situation?”
Ava flinched. Her hands let go of Jeremy, her body straightened.
“That’s right. If we go to the hospital now, they will know my mother’s position. She can be in harm.”
After a breath, Ava softened her voice. “Then what should we do now? Are you going to call some bodyguards to come?”
“And let the security at home weaken?” Jeremy pressed his forehead with his eyebrows. “No. That’s too risky.”
“Your brother’s bodyguard?”
Jeremy shook his head. “They also need full security team.”
“Should we call the police?”
“And cause a stir? Have you forgotten that Sophia’s arrest was kept secret?”
Ava grimaced. “Then what should we do? If we go home now, we might get ambushed on that quiet street. Why did you build a house in such a remote place?”
Jeremy frowned. “That used to be my grandfather’s house. He didn’t like crowds. Because of that, he deliberately built a villa and cleared the land around it. It wasn’t my fault”
Ava leaned back with a look of resignation. Her eyes closed for a moment, trying to clear her mind.
“Shall we go to your brother’s house?” She suddenly straightened her back.

“What’s the difference between the road to his house and the road to my house?”
Ava blinked anxiously. Before she could find a solution, Jeremy
started the car.
“Where are we going?” Ava sighed.
Jeremy checked the rearview. The car had followed.
“This road is starting to get quiet. We’ll have to look for another place.
“Where? You couldn’t have gone to the hospital, right? It would be a waste of my mother to be transferred secretly if it was now revealed.”
Jeremy didn’t answer. He kept focusing on the road.
“Mr. Harper?”
Ava was still waiting for a response. When her patience ran out, her tone rose drastically. “Jeremy?”
“No need to shout. Save your energy Just follow my directions,” Jeremy said casually.
“What directions? You didn’t give me any directions at all.” Ava shook her head in annoyance.
However, Jeremy became silent again. A moment later, he suddenly turned into a bar. Ava stared wide-eyed at the rather dark place.
“What is your plan?” she sighed softly.
Jeremy parked the car and unfastened his seat belt. “Follow my steps. Don’t go too far.”
“But-”
