S31 73. Barbara in Danger
A few moments passed. While waiting for Sean, Philip kept contacting Barbara. The twins were also worried when they saw him.
“Uncle Philip, what actually happened? Why do we have to go home early?” Louis inquired as he lifted and dropped the small backpack on
his back.
Philip lowered the phone from his ear. Seeing the wrinkles on the toddlers’ eyebrows, he stopped in his uneasy moves.
“Does it have anything to do with the Moore family?” Emily asked before Philip could respond, leaving the man caught in a dilemma.
Not getting an answer, Emily finally bowed her head. While touching the floor with the tip of her shoe, she muttered, “Please be honest, Uncle Philip. We are not ordinary children. We have been trained by Daddy to be braver and stronger.”
“Yes, we have also been taught how to strategize. We are no longer afraid of the enemy.” Louis puffed out his cheeks and furrowed his brows, trying to look tough.
However, Philip still couldn’t bear to tell them about Barbara. “Jerer
and Ava had an attack.”
The twins’ eyes widened. They had been taught and understood wha
the sentence meant.
“Are they okay?”
Philip nodded. “Yes, because of that, we have to be more careful. It will be safer if you just learn from home.”
“Could it be that the enemy launched an attack here? But we’re still too young,” Emily pursed her lips.
“How could they have the heart to hurt us? We are cute and sweet children. They must be really cruel.” Louis nodded with narrowed eyes.
“So now, shall we go straight home? Not to the office?” Emily looked up waiting for an answer.
Philip pondered for a moment. “Sorry, Louis, Emily. I have other things to do. The one who will escort you home later is Sean.”
Instead of being disappointed, the twins were beaming.
“Sean will pick us up?”
“It will be a fun trip home. It’s been a while since we’ve seen Sean, Emily. He’ll have lots of stories for us.”
While the two toddlers were busy chatting, Philip’s phone rang again. Seeing the name that appeared, his eyes widened.
“Barbara?” Without thinking, Philip picked it up. “Baby, where are you?”,
Dismissive laughter answered. “Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not your baby.”
Hearing the disguised voice, Philip flinched. Hundreds of kilovolts. seemed to flow through his body.
“Who are you?” Philip asked in a low tone.
Hearing the growling voice, the twins looked up. Their eyes wider and their mouths opened slightly.
However, Philip no longer spoke. When he lowered the phone from his ear, he just gritted his teeth. His hand gripped the phone very tightly.
“What’s wrong, Philip? Did something happen to Auntie?”
Philip looked up, releasing the excess pressure in his lungs. However, he wasn’t sure he could erase the red streaks from his eyes.
Therefore, he put his phone in his pocket and then reached out to the
twins.
“Sean will be here any minute. We have to hurry to the front gate.”
The twins no longer asked. They glanced at each other,
understanding that Philip was keeping something secret from them. Evidently, as soon as Sean arrived, Philip invited the man to talk some distance from the twins.
“Emily, what do you think Philip was talking about?” Louis leaned his mouth to Emily’s ear.
We
“I don’t know, Louis. But whatever it is, I’m sure it’s something very serious. An adult matter. Therefore, we can’t know. Even if ask, Philip will definitely not answer.”
Louis’ cheeks puffed up. His eyes narrowed. “Could something have happened to Auntie? Philip looked very worried.”
Emily shuddered in horror. “Louis, don’t talk carelessly. If that really happened, I can’t imagine how hard Auntie would cry. She must be so
scared.”
“The kidnapper could have taped her mouth shut.”
“But the tears will still fall. No, Louis Let’s think positive.”
Louis pursed his lips inward. “If it’s true that something has hap to Auntie, I don’t think we should just stay still, Emily. We have to
Emily shook her head quickly. “We’re still too young, Louis. And Dad said the enemy we’re facing is heartless. We should stay away fro danger. Leave this matter to the adults.”
“But we are with Sean. He can protect us and we can think of a cool
strategy to save Auntie. You can’t bear to see Auntie suffer, right?”
Emily looked at Louis with a doubtful expression. The wrinkles on her beautiful eyebrows made anyone who saw them worry.
“What’s wrong, Young Lady?”
The twins looked up. “Sean?” They checked in that direction. Philip’s
car was gone.
“What happened? Did something happen to Auntie?” Louis shot. Emily discreetly elbowed him in the arm.
Sean blinked stiffly. “Sorry. I wasn’t assigned to answer that question. Now let’s get into the car. Your parents will be home soon. They will be very worried if you don’t arrive first.”
Louis looked down languidly. He knew it would be difficult to get information from Sean. However, he didn’t want to just give up. As the car they were in was moving, he started looking for chances.
“So,” Louis moved his body forward so he could see Sean in the front seat. He didn’t care if the straps of his backpack had slipped down to his arms. The important thing was that the conversation must flow. You came all the way here to apologize?”
Sean nodded. “Yes, Young Master. I feel guilty not being able to
attend your New Year’s party.”
