S31 94. Uncle Jeremy Likes Ava
“What you heard was like singing, right?”
Mrs. Connor nodded faintly. Smiling, Ava glanced at Jeremy.
“On New Year’s Eve, they sang a song to entertain my mother.” Ava shifted her gaze back to her mother. “At that moment, your finger started moving. I didn’t think you really heard it. Do you want to meet them?”
Mrs. Connor closed her eyes for a longer time when she blinked.” They led me. I … followed their voices.”
Ava widened her smile. “They are truly extraordinary children.”
“I can tell them that your mother wakes up. They will definitely come here straight away.” Jeremy spoke casually.
Ava smiled, appreciating his attempt at their friendship. “Not now. They’ve been through a lot today. Let them go home and rest.”
Jeremy raised an eyebrow. He just found out that Ava was that
understanding. “Then I’ll ask Frank to tell them the good news before they go to bed.”
Ava nodded. “That must be fine. For now, just let them gather with
their families.”

“Daddy, do you think Uncle Jeremy likes Ava?” Emily asked as her father pulled her blanket.
Frank widened his eyes. “Why do you ask that, Princess?”
“Because Louis and I hope Ava will be our Auntie. She’s a good person, Daddy, perfect for Uncle Jeremy.”
Louis nodded in agreement beside Emily. “If Ava becomes our Auntie, we won’t have to worry about Uncle Jeremy anymore. He won’t be lonely and his life will be happier.”
“Little Angels,” Kara rubbed Louis’s forehead and then Emily’s,” Mommy actually also likes Ava. I think she is suitable for your uncle. But once again, you have to remember. The decision belongs to….”
“Uncle Jeremy,” the twins answered simultaneously.
“That’s right.” Kara patted Louis’ chest. “Now, don’t think about it anymore. You must be tired. You should get some sleep.”
Π
“What story do you want to hear tonight?” Frank moved towards bookshelf in the corner of Emily’s room.
“Daddy, you don’t need a book tonight. Just tell us about your adventure in saving us earlier. I’m sure the story will be fun.”
Frank smiled crookedly at Louis’ suggestion. Sitting back on the edge. of the bed, he took a deep breath. Right at that moment, Emily raised her hand, interrupting him.
“Before Daddy starts, can I ask for one thing?”
Frank and Kara raised an eyebrow. “What is it, Little Bee?”
“Please don’t move Louis to his room. I don’t want to sleep alone tonight. I’m afraid of having nightmares. Is that okay, Mommy, Daddy?
Kara smiled wryly. “Are you still afraid?”
Emily pinched the air with her index finger and thumb. “A little bit. I’m. afraid that Mr. and Mrs. Moore will come into my dreams. I don’t want them destroying our castle with guns or whatever they smuggled in.”
“Emily,” Louis widened his eyes, “have you forgotten? Mr. Moore is
2/5
already in prison. There’s no way he could escape and enter your dreams.”
Emily pursed her lips. “But there’s still Mrs. Moore. She could be the witch in my dreams. Her stiff hair is perfect. Plus her fierce eyes and scary voice.”
“Still, you don’t need to worry, Emily. She is weak. She can’t do anything. I will beat her with my sword if she disturbs our castle.”
“But what if she has a gun?”
“I can deflect the bullets with the sword. Then, they would bounce back at her, and she would fall off her broomstick.”
Kara smiled sadly hearing that. She glanced at Frank. Her husband understood the meaning of her gaze

“Kids,” Frank raised his eyebrows, “Daddy actually has information to convey tomorrow morning. But, after thinking about it, it’s better for me to convey it tonight.”
The twins’ eyes widened. “What information, Daddy?”
“There is good news from Ava and Jeremy.”
Emily’s face lit up. “Are they dating?”
Frank let out a small laugh. “No. That’s not it.”
Louis lowered his eyebrows until his eyes were shadowed. “Does it
have anything to do with Grandma or Mrs. Connor?”
Frank snapped his fingers. “Your guess is almost accurate. Mrs.
Connor is awake.”
“Really?” The twins gaped wide. “She is awake?”
Kara nodded. “She asked about you. Apparently, she heard your singing on New Year’s Eve. Because of that, she wanted to meet you.”
The twins’ laughter instantly warmed the atmosphere.
“This is very exciting news. We should throw a party to celebrate it!”
“And we have to prepare a song for Mrs. Connor. She’ll love hearing it. But no more Lion Sleeps, Louis.”
While the twins were busy making plans, Kara looked at Frank with a big smile. She was relieved that the two toddlers were distracted from the previous topic.
“Daddy, Mommy,” Louis suddenly caught their attention, “didn’t the school give us a break tomorrow? They said we were still recovering How about tomorrow morning, we visit Mrs. Connor?”
“Yes, we can come with fruit. She will be happy.” Emily nodded cutely.
Smiling, Frank shook his head slowly. “Sorry, Kids. I will be busy tomorrow. A lot of work has been hampered today.”
Instead of being disappointed, Louis rounded his eyes. “We can wait until Daddy’s work is finished.”
“If I finish at night, is that okay?” Frank raised an eyebrow.
“That would be even better. We could have dinner together. Jeremy wouldn’t mind and Mrs. Bell would be happy!” Emily’s voice was
cheerful.
