S31 131. Seeking for Attention
Vivian welcomed the morning with a happy face. The message from the servant had made her feel so light. She never expected that her son’s progress could be so rapid.
“If it’s like this, I’ll be able to see my grandchild soon. He or she must be very cute. Oh, I really can’t wait.”
While imagining what the faces of her grandchildren would look like, she stepped lightly. However, when she saw Eva at the door leading to the dining room, her cheerfulness faded.
“Good morning, Mrs. Harper. You look so radiant. What makes you happy?”
Instead of answering, Vivian narrowed her eyes. Her finger was pointed forward. “You…. What are you doing here so early?”
Eva smiled. “Sorry if I haven’t had time to ask your permission. My mother asked me to stay here so she wouldn’t be lonely. That’s why L decided to stay here to take care of her until she recovers.”
With a high arch of eyebrows, Vivian nodded. “Does Jeremy know yet?
“Yes, I asked his permission yesterday. He allowed me here.”
Eva sweetened her smile. However, the corners of Vivian’s lips twitched, almost letting out a grin.
“Okay then. Let’s have breakfast.”
Eva followed Vivian into the dining room. A sly smile was etched on her face. She felt that Vivian could be a chance to carry out her
mission.

“Let me help you, Ma’am.” She pulled out a chair for Vivian.
Vivian’s eyebrows furrowed, but her lips still maintained modesty. ” Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, Ma’am.”
Then, Eva’s hand reached out, about to open the napkin for Vivian. Before she did, Vivian quickly raised one hand.
“Could you please wait? I never touch the plate until everyone gathers.
Eva’s expression turned stiff. After blinking, she smiled again. “Sorry, Madam. I didn’t mean to be presumptuous. I’m just used to serving the elderly.”
“Then where is your mother? She didn’t come to breakfast with us?”
Eva’s eyebrows arched high. “Mom?”
“You haven’t seen her this morning? Aren’t you here to look after her?”
Eva’s mouth was open, but her voice was choked. “I saw that she was still sleeping. I didn’t want to disturb her. I thought it’s better to let her rest a little longer. Today she has a physiotherapy session. She needs
more energy.”
Vivian sneered. “That’s a little strange. She’s usually already awake at
this hour. Sometimes she’s even been here with Ava.”
Realizing the insinuation, Eva’s expression changed. However, after one breath, her lips curled again.
“Thank you for your consideration, Mrs. Bell. But you don’t need to worry. If I were in her room, I’m sure she wouldn’t want to eat here. My mother would definitely want me to feed her.”
Vivian frowned at Eva’s confidence. She started to feel uncomfortable

being around the girl.
“Then have a seat. The others will come in a moment.”
Thinking Vivian sympathized with her, Eva smiled wider. Her eyes shined brighter. “Thank you, Mrs. Bell.”
Without asking, she pulled a chair next to Vivian. However, before she could sit down, Vivian’s voice stopped her.
“Sorry, could you sit in the chair over there? This is Melanie’s place.”
Eva turned still. Her eyes fluttered as she took in the situation. Slowly, her feet moved back from the chair.
“Sorry, I don’t know.”
With awkward movements, she circled the table, approaching the chair in front of Vivian, the first chair from the main chair. Before she had time to pull it, Vivian cleared her throat.
“Sorry, I mean the chair next to it. That’s Ava’s chair. She is Jeremy’s future wife. Of course she should be sitting next to him.”
Eva’s face froze. When a blink broke the stiffness, she forced he head to nod. Her insincere smile made her face look like a ghost
“Of course I’m aware of that. I just wanted to accompany you in
conversation while you waited for the others to arrive. I’m afraid you neck will hurt if you look at the chair over there for too long.”
“It won’t be long. In two minutes, it’s time for breakfast. Jeremy and
Ava are never late.”
The curve of Eva’s lips threatened to collapse. Before her annoyance peaked, she quickly took a seat further away.
At that moment, Melanie entered the dining room. Seeing Eva, her eyes widened. “Oh? We have a guest?”

Eva’s face brightened a little. Finally, someone welcomed her with open arms and enthusiasm.
“Good morning, Mrs. Melanie. For the time being, I’m staying here. I want to accompany and take care of my mother so she recovers
faster.”
Melanie’s eyebrows rose higher. “Isn’t that a waste? There’s already Ava taking care of Mrs. Connor. Her performance is good. Can you be better than her? Besides, now there’s a nurse on standby.”
The corners of Eva’s lips twitched. Before she could respond, Melanie turned her gaze to Vivian.
“Where’s your son and Ava? They haven’t arrived yet.” Melanie sat beside Vivian.
“They should be here any minute. They’re never late. Except… they were exhausted because of last night.” Vivian covered her laughter gracefully.
“Exhausted? What do you mean? Because of the party? Was it that fun? If I didn’t have a phobia of heights, I would have gone along.”
“Not because of that.” Vivian leaned towards Melanie. “Please don’t tell anyone about this. The two of them slept in the same room last night.”
“In Ava’s room? But I didn’t hear anything last night.” Melanie stared wide eyed.
“In Jeremy’s room. I didn’t hear anything either, but… you might know what happened. They’re still young. There’s no way they could resist temptation.”
Melanie’s eyes suddenly narrowed. Her hands were folded in front of her chest. “Do you secretly want to compete with me? I think that’s difficult. I have two grandchildren now. Kara is pregnant with her
