S3 161. How Was Last Night?
“Louis, what’s wrong with your eyes?” Abigail asked after saying good morning. While sitting next to Diana, she observed the boy. “You look like an owl.”
“Louis couldn’t sleep, Abi. He kept thinking about how a woman could get pregnant even though I told him to sleep and not think about it anymore.”
While Frank and Kara shook their heads, Abigail chuckled. “You shouldn’t sacrifice your sleep thinking about that, Louis. Your eyes are swollen, but you still can’t find the answer. Look at Emily. Her face is radiant and fresh.”
“But I ended up sleeping, after I agreed with Emily.” Louis looked to the side. “It seems you’re right, Emily. Daddy planted the baby in Mommy’s belly through the navel. Last night, Uncle Philip must have been doing it too. That’s why Auntie was panting. She was amused because Uncle kept digging into her navel.”
Some of the adults looked down and laughed. Some were stunned.
“How did you know Barbara was panting, Louis?” Susan inquired.
“Louis hijacked Mommy’s phone, Grandma. Then we called Auntie. We wanted to ask about her condition. We were worried because previously, Auntie called Mommy and sounded scared,” Emily reported with a serious expression.
“But apparently, Auntie was fine. She could still answer our calls. She said it was just a little painful.” Louis pinched the air with his thumb and forefinger.
Susan looked straight at Kara. Blinking stiffly, Kara shrugged.
“I don’t know when Louis took my phone.”
“We’re sorry, Mom. Next time, we won’t be negligent again.” Frank nodded while grimacing meaningfully.
“I really don’t understand. Why can’t small kids know about that? And what’s wrong with us calling Auntie last night?” Louis grumbled while scratching his temple.
“Because it’s an invasion of privacy, Louis, and you’re not qualified.”
Everyone turned to the voice. Barbara entered, side by side with Philip.
“Auntie!” Emily’s eyes lit up.
“Good morning, Everyone,” Philip said as he pulled out a chair for Barbara. “Are we late?”
“In fact, you’re too early. Newlyweds shouldn’t rush,” Melanie said, winking at her daughter. Barbara chuckled.
“How was last night? Was it smooth?”
Kara quickly elbowed Frank, warning that the twins were listening.
“Yeah, we did well.” Philip smiled as he sat next to his wife.
“So, what qualifications did Auntie mean?” Louis had difficulty pronouncing the word that sounded strange to him.
“Qualifications are requirements, Louis. Just like how you were able
to receive a scholarship before, there are conditions that must be met. Do you remember?”
Emily nodded quickly. “Yes, there’s a lot of documents to prepare. Then, Grandpa Rowan tested us with a few questions.”
“Do we need a requirement to know how someone gets pregnant?” Louis’ eyes narrowed.
“Of course. First, you have to be at least 17 years old.”
“Not 17, but 21 years old,” Kara interrupted quickly.
Barbara raised an eyebrow at the code. “Yes, 21 years old.”
Louis’ mouth rounded. “That’s still a long time!”
“You shouldn’t complain, Louis. Do you want to get old quickly? I don’t. I want to enjoy my childhood as best as possible.”
Louis’ cheeks puffed up. “Okay. Then, what are the next conditions?”
“Second, you must have a great sense of responsibility and be ready to build a family.”
“And third?”
“You have to find the right partner,” Frank interjected, “like Daddy and Mommy.”
“Like me and Philip too,” Barbara continued, coquettishly.
While Philip laughed faintly, Emily rounded her mouth. “Oh, I
understand now.”
Everyone focused on her. “Understand what, Princess?”
“How can people get pregnant even though they’re not married. Like Mommy and Ava!”
“Because they are 21 years old, have a sense of responsibility, and already have the right partner?” Louis continued with sparkling eyes. It was like he had found a treasure he had been looking for.
“Yes!” Emily nodded confidently. She didn’t realize that adults were intrigued by her idea.
Suddenly, Louis glanced at Abigail. “That means Abi doesn’t know how to get pregnant? She’s only 19 years old.”
The water that Abigail had just sipped almost spilled out. While wiping her mouth, she nodded. “Yeah, I don’t know either.”
“Abigail is only 19 years old?” Melanie’s eyes widened. “I think she’s already in twenties.”
Chuckling dryly, Abigail scratched her neck. “I’ve heard that often. Maybe because I work too much, my face looks old.”
“Don’t be fooled, Grandma! Abigail is still young too! Don’t tell her about how someone can get pregnant. She doesn’t meet the
qualications yet.” Louis straightened one hand. His eyebrows arched.
in seriousness.
“Qualifications, Louis,” Emily corrected.
“Yes, that’s what I mean.”
While the twins continued to chatter, Barbara glanced at the empty chairs. “So, where are Ava and Jeremy? They didn’t forget that we had breakfast together, right?”
“Maybe they’re busy doing the test.” Frank shrugged.
“Does it take long?”
Louis’ eyes narrowed at Barbara’s question. “How old are you actually, Auntie? Aren’t you already past 21? Why don’t you know about that?”
While the people at the dining table turned amused again, in another room, Jeremy sat in silence. His head bowed, his hands put together between his knees. As soon as Ava came out of the bathroom, he got up quickly.
“How is it? Have you gotten the result?”
Ava smiled dryly. It’s hard to guess what’s in her mind. “Yes.”
Jeremy’s eyes widened. His heart beat more violently. “So?”
Taking a deep breath, Ava took out what she had hidden behind her waist. Seeing the two lines on the device, Jeremy’s eyebrows rose.
“What does it mean? You’re pregnant? You’re really pregnant?”
