"Hey, listen to me," Casper said, holding Eliza's hand tightly, his palm slick with sweat. "Rory died right in front of me. You have to understand, I couldn't say no to anything he asked, especially when I was all alone back then..."
Yeah, she got it. She really did. But why hadn't he married her back then? And why, after ten years of having a family and kids, did he suddenly want to keep that promise? Wasn't he just hurting her? Was she that easy to toss aside?
"Casper, just because I understand doesn't mean I agree. And seriously, how many years has it been? Your kid's already ten..."
Hold on. Kid? That kid...
"Is that child yours?"
Casper shook his head, swearing up and down, "No way, absolutely not mine."
"Then how come he was a match for Brock? We're Brock's biological parents and not even we were a match. So how was he? Are you sure he's not your son?"
Eliza's eyes were filled with doubt.
Casper stayed firm. "He's definitely not mine. At first, I thought he might be Rory's, so I tried to make it up to Rory through this kid. But he's not Rory's son either."
Eliza was baffled. Not Casper's, not his friend's... so who else could it be? Another man?
"Casper, what on earth is going on with you guys?"
"It's not me; it's Fiona..." Casper sighed, deciding to lay it all out for Eliza. "After Rory died, she moved to another city, hooked up with a rich guy, and got pregnant fast, thinking she could secure her spot with her kid. But the guy wouldn't leave his wife, and she got kicked out. Then she turned her sights on me."
