Shelly chuckled. "Mr. Tate, your question makes me feel kind of uncomfortable, but I can tell you that I don't have any pursuers."
"Why would you feel uncomfortable?"
"Because it's my private life that you are asking about."
After receiving her response, Hayden was about to end the conversation when his phone rang.
He took it out and realized that it was a call from Avery.
Knowing that Avery was calling to check on him, he answered the call in front of Shelly.
"Hayden, have you met with the baby's mother? How's the conversation going? What's her name? What does she look like?" Avery fired question after question. "What is she like in person?"
"We met. The conversation ended. Her name is Shelly Taylor. She now works at a cafe. She looks alright."
Shelly was rendered speechless by how insensitive Hayden was, talking about her as if she was not there.
"She is quite decisive," Hayden added. "I wanted to pay her, and she turned me down. She isn't playing hard to get."
Shelly had never seen someone who would make such comments about others in front of them.
Avery felt conflicted by Hayden's words. "Hayden, did you scare her by any chance? Why don't you tell her that I want to meet her? Get her to tell you when she will be free!" Avery felt that her son might be too straightforward and Shelly might not dare to speak her mind.
"Sure. I will tell her, but she might not agree to meet with you," Hayden said.
"Just ask her!"
Hayden did not know how to prove to Avery that he was on his best behavior with Shelly.
After that, the two went their separate ways.
Shelly stood outside the cafe and watched as Hayden went into his car before pulling out her phone to send Courtney a message.
[I've just met with Hayden. He didn't pick on me. He seems like a good person.]
Courtney immediately gave her a call upon receiving the message. "Shelly, did he offer to pay you?"
"He did, but I turned him down."
"Huh? Why would you do that? How much was he going to pay you?" Courtney exclaimed in frustration.
"He didn't name a price. His mother wants to meet with me tomorrow, though." Shelly could feel her heart racing. "He said that I can ask his mother for anything I want."
