"You're really Little Critter, ain't ya!" Evadne's face flushed, her eyes curved with a smile.
The man smiled, and the coldness in his eyes vanished. His left arm wrapped around her slim waist, and his right hand lifted to push his glasses with his long middle finger.
He hadn't heard this nickname in a long time.
Even his father no longer called him this, but Evadne still did, unrestrained and without hesitation, just like when they were kids.
"Time flies. I haven't seen you in fifteen years, but you're still as beautiful as ever."
"You're still as handsome!"
Evadne's eyes were full of mirth. She reached out and lightly patted his cheek, her actions carried a man's casualness and frivolousness, but it didn't repulse him in the slightest.
If she was always prim and proper, then she wouldn't be the Evadne he knew.
Evadne covered her mouth and let out a burp. Her body swayed and she was unable to stand steadily.
The man smiled slightly, regardless of whether she was willing or not, he directly picked her up.
"Put me down!" Evadne's face was as red as a flower as she struggled in the man's arms like a naughty kitten.
Under her dress, her slender legs kicked randomly.
His gaze deepened, "If you can call out my full name, I'll put you down."
"You full name is," Evadne was seriously drunk, and her mind seemed to be filled with paste. She was not even clear on what she was saying, let alone remembering his full name.
"My name is Avery Chambers, but it doesn't matter if you call me Little Critter."
The man's long lashes quivered, and he gently said in her ear, "But, this nickname is only for you to use."
Unfortunately, these words entered the drunken Evadne's ears, turning into chaotic noise. She didn't hear a single word.
Avery carefully placed her soft body on the sofa, every movement extremely gentle.
At this moment, his phone rang. It was a call from his secretary.
"Mr. Chambers, everyone's here."
"Let them all go back." Avery smiled, his gaze always resting on Evadne's rosy face.
"Sorry, pardon?" The secretary was surprised.
"Cancel the gathering today. Let them all go home, and don't disturb me."
"Alright, Mr. Chambers." The secretary immediately agreed, not daring to ask more.
"Also, go buy a bottle of lemonade from nearby as soon as possible."
After hanging up the call, Avery slowly sat next to Evadne. He turned her to the side and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear.
On the other side.
Jareth finally collapsed on the sofa after singing the last song, completely passed out.
Thaddeus frowned, feeling troubled.
There was some leftover alcohol in the glass. He raised his head and finished it in one gulp.
Next, he took Jareth's cigarette and lit one. The orange flame added an unusual rebellious air to his handsome face.
The nicotine and his confused emotions entered his lungs together. These emotions were all because of Evadne. He was surrounded by turbid blue smoke.
Ever since he divorced Evadne, his life had been disrupted. He started smoking and drinking heavily, and there was no one to advise him to cut down.
"Evadne. Evadne." With his eyes closed, Jareth was tearing at his black shirt, calling Evadne's name.
Thaddeus was brought back to reality. He flicked off the ash, lifted his leg and kicked his drooping arm with the tip of his shoe.
"Shut up, calling her name is useless."
Suddenly, the door to the box was pushed open with a bang. Gordon was panting, leaning on the door-frame at the entrance.
"Can't you knock?" Thaddeus put out the cigarette, saying coldly.
"Mr. Thaddeus! I just saw Mrs. Abernathy!" Gordon was sweating all over in his urgency.
"What?" Thaddeus immediately stood up, "Where?"
"Mr. Thaddeus, promise me that you won't act rashly and you won't get angry."
The secretary nodded and quickly walked up to Thaddeus, "Mr. Thaddeus, please leave immediately."
Before the secretary could finish her words, the furious Thaddeus had already pushed her aside. Striding towards Evadne, his tall figure cast a shadow over her, his eyes as cold as ice.
Evadne didn't have time to react. She rubbed her eyes like a child, looking at him somewhat dazedly.
The next moment, she was taken aback. "Thaddeus? What on earth are you doing here?"
"Come with me."
Holding back a storm of anger, Thaddeus didn't say much. He grabbed her arm and pulled her into his arms.
His rage at that moment was like a tsunami. It was not exaggerated at all.
This woman took his project during the day and was eager to find a man to cheer her up at night.
And that man was a sanctimonious jerk!
Did she have any conscience left?
"Why should I go with you? Who the hell are you?" Evadne, half sober, struggled to break free from his grip. "Let go of me! Are you a stalker? I didn't say I'd go with you!"
"Evadne, don't push my patience!" Thaddeus gritted his teeth, his grip on her hand tightening, his veins popping.
Avery's eyes darkened and he suddenly grabbed Evadne's other hand.
Caught between the two, Evadne felt unbearable pain in her arms. It felt like she was about to be torn apart!
"Can't you see that? She doesn't want to go with you. Do you think you're a good guy to force someone?" Avery sneered.
"What happens between us doesn't need your interference!" Thaddeus's temples throbbed.
Avery adjusted his glasses, his gaze icy. "If I'm an outsider, what are you to her?"
They locked eyes and spoke at the same time.
Thaddeus said, "Her husband!"
Evadne said, "Ex!"
