That voice was so painfully familiar.
Like a dagger, it pierced right through Thaddeus' chest!
Roused from her reverie, Evadne felt a tight squeeze in her heart, as if she'd been caught in the act of some mischief. With all her strength, she wriggled free from Thaddeus' oppressive hold, spinning around to give him a forceful shove.
Thaddeus' heart sank and he staggered back.
All that was left in his arms was the icy chill of the air, a desolate emptiness.
"Mr. Avery, what are you doing here?" Evadne tried to settle her erratic breathing but couldn't hide the panic in her eyes.
Beneath his grey suit, Avery's body was trembling ever so slightly, a hatred so intense hidden beneath the surface.
He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, his gaze upon Thaddeus filled with unbridled fury.
It was fleeting, but Thaddeus noticed. His starry eyes narrowed, a bloodthirsty dominance kindling within them.
When it came to intimidation, Thaddeus had never been bested.
Especially not in front of the woman he loved.
Evadne noticed Thaddeus' hardened gaze and she felt as if he was about to rip Avery apart!
She thought, "Logically speaking, he was the one who had acted inappropriately first. What had Avery done wrong, besides interrupting his 'fun'? Such a shameless man!"
"Evadne! Are you okay?"
Avery quickly moved closer to Evadne, his concerned gaze softening as he lowered his voice, "Are you okay? Do you need help?"
"No, I'm fine." Evadne, her forehead slick with sweat, managed a smile at him.
Thaddeus was so consumed by jealousy that his eyes were practically aflame.
It had been a long time since she had smiled at him like that.
Now, she was giving that smile so easily to Avery.
"You don't look fine."
Avery didn't reach out to hold Evadne, but standing by her side, he radiated an air of absolute protectiveness and possessiveness.
Then, he casually glanced at Thaddeus, "Do you want me to kick him out?"
It was such a natural tone, as if he was staking his claim!
Thaddeus' eyes were bloodshot, his fists clenched.
If Evadne wasn't there, he would have thrown Avery a punch by now.
"No need, he can leave on his own." Evadne responded coolly, no longer looking at Thaddeus.
"Then, Evadne, will you come with me?"
Evadne looked surprised.
Thaddeus could no longer contain his anger, gritting his teeth, his voice icy, "Avery, do you even know what you're saying?"
"I do, but it seems some people don't know what they're doing."
Avery moved to stand in front of Evadne, smirking, "Can't you see that Evadne despises you? You're not her husband anymore. If you act like this, I could call the cops on you, Mr. Thaddeus."
"That's enough."
Not wanting to cause more trouble, Evadne simply lowered her lashes, speaking indifferently to Thaddeus, "You should go. Go now."
"Evadne!"
"I told you to go!"
Finally, Evadne lost her temper, "I really don't want to see you, Thaddeus, I really don't."
Thaddeus felt as if he'd been struck by lightning, his handsome face paling.
His jaw clenched, a rage surging up to his chest, nearly choking him.
