His Ex-Wife Is A Billionaire (Evadne and Thaddeus) novel Chapter 1382

Evadne's heart instantly leaped into her throat. Under Hans's penetrating, sharp gaze, she fought to keep her composure, forcing a casual smile.

"Huh? Nothing's wrong. I'm perfectly fine."

"I was watching you during dinner. You looked awful, and you're even paler now, like you're completely drained."

Hans's eyes were filled with worry, his voice gentle but serious. "Tell me, what's really going on? Did something happen?"

"No, of course not. I'm just exhausted." Evadne sighed. "You know how it is, Hans. Emeric expects me to manage the entirety of KS Group. I'm only human, and sometimes it's just too much to handle."

She frowned, complaining playfully, "Honestly, Emeric had way too much energy when he was younger. Why did he have to build such a massive empire? Running it is going to be the death of me!"

Hans let out a helpless sigh. "I don't understand the business world. But if you're struggling, you should ask Thaddeus for help. He's a veteran at this."

A sudden lump formed in Evadne's throat. She kept her voice low. "Thaddeus has already done more than enough for me. I can handle it myself. I don't want to keep bothering him."

"Are you two... still not back together?"

Evadne offered a breezy smile. "It doesn't matter anymore. Whether we patch things up or never go back to how we were, I'm not going to force it.

"Once, Thaddeus told me he didn't care if we were together, as long as he could watch over me. This time, it's my turn to be the one watching over him."

Hearing this, Hans felt his throat tighten. He lowered his head, overwhelmed with guilt.

"Evadne, I'm so sorry... It's my fault things ended up like this between you two."

"No, no, no! Hans, you can't think like that!"

Evadne gripped his shoulders tightly, her gaze fierce and resolute. "Nothing is more important than having you back, than our family being together again. We're all alive and well, and that's enough. As long as we're alive, everything will get better in the future."

...

Three days later.

During the day, Evadne went to the corporate headquarters as usual for work and meetings. After clocking out, she sent Jason Dempsey away and drove alone to the hospital where Chad Abernathy was out on medical bail.

She didn't bring anyone with her. A large entourage would make her too conspicuous, and if the paparazzi caught even a single photo, the media would have a field day speculating about her relationship with Chad.

Previously, to gain his trust, she had joined the board of the Abernathy group to co-develop the A5 Project. That move alone had sparked endless rumors. Many already assumed they were secretly dating and just waiting for the right moment to go public.

The smile lines around Attorney Gorman's eyes deepened as he winked. "To him, you have always been the person he trusts and cares about the most. I'm sure you're well aware of his feelings for you."

Evadne's stomach churned with disgust. She squeezed her fingers tightly together.

"I'm incredibly flattered by his affection. Lead the way."

Attorney Gorman guided Evadne into the elevator. They rode it all the way to the top floor, heading straight for the Special Patients Ward.

Along the way, Evadne kept her guard up, carefully observing her surroundings. Though nothing seemed explicitly wrong, an unsettling feeling crept over her. The atmosphere felt off.

It was far too quiet. Eerily so.

Even if the Special Patients Ward was naturally isolated, it shouldn't have been completely deserted. There wasn't a single person in sight. Not even a police guard.

While Evadne was lost in her grim thoughts, Attorney Gorman abruptly stopped in his tracks.

"We're here, Ms. Evadne. After you."
