Marilla frolicked over to the snowman, and Coco playfully nudged it over.
She picked up the big snowball, tiptoed, and reattached the "head." Coco, wagging his tail excitedly, circled around the pretty girl, even rolling around at her feet.
"Coco, aren't you cold? I'll knit you a sweater someday!"
"Woof!"
Coco seemed to understand and wagged his tail excitedly. He pounced on Marilla, licking her soft cheeks.
"Ha ha ha, that tickles! Coco, stop messing around!” Marilla was knocked to the ground by Coco, and the two of them rolled around in the snow.
Jareth watched this rare scene of happiness and warmth, his eyes full of tenderness and doting.
He had thought that he could never have such a simple and happy life.
But Marilla had given him that.
He had what other men had.
"Mr. Jareth, I never thought that Coco, who used to bite people, could get along so well with Ms. Marilla," Lily walked over and said with a smile.
"Because he's smitten!"
Lily muttered something about a dog being like its owner.
Jareth watched as Coco pounced on Marilla, and the more he watched, the more his heart ached, the more he craved a dog.
Damn, was he actually jealous of a dog?
"Coco! Go cool off somewhere else!"
Jareth roared and strode over, helping Marilla, coated in snow, to her feet.
"It's cold on the ground, and you're a girl. You could catch a cold." He bent over and brushed the snow off her.
"Thank you, Jareth."
"Don't mention it."
Jareth looked deeply into her charming eyes, his hot breath sprinkling on her flushed cheeks, "Marilla, you're important to me, and I'm happy to be with you. I should be the one thanking you.”
"But, but I didn't do anything." Marilla was bewildered.
"You've done a lot."
Jareth grasped her delicate, frozen hands, rubbing them with his warm palms, holding them, and breathing on them.
"Come on, get into my arms."
He opened his black coat to her, and she obediently snuggled into his embrace.
She was enveloped in a warm masculine scent, making her feel so comfortable that she closed her eyes and snuggled closer to him.
Suddenly, the fire within Jareth started to flare up again, his eyes gradually turning a shade of red.
“Marilla.”
“Hmm?” Marilla's soft voice was muffled.
"From now on, you can only act this way with me."
Jareth looked at her with intense eyes, his voice husky, "If you act like this with others, I'll get angry. And I can be very scary when I'm angry.”
“How scary?” Marilla was a bit nervous, her eyes flickering.
Jareth's eyes were full of affection, his face close to hers, his lips almost touching her soft lips, "Very scary, want to try? Hmm?”
Marilla shook her head rapidly, her heart racing.
“Then I understand. I'll only act like this with you. Please don't get angry, okay?”
These days, Jareth had been so good to her, buying her many beautiful clothes that she had only seen on her sister before. She never had any of her own.
The food here was delicious. Although not as good as her sister-in-law's, it was still great.
Moreover, Jareth would help her dry her hair, feed her, and even sleep in the same bed with her.
Just sleeping, nothing else.
Jareth pampered her, cared for her, she didn't want to be so ungrateful as to make him angry.
"Good girl."
Her big watery eyes shone like stars, and Jareth couldn't help but want to kiss her. Suddenly, he realized something and regretted it so much that he wanted to slap himself!
Wasn't this what they called a slippery slope?
But he really, really wished this girl could stay with him forever.
He was thinking of her marrying someone else, being held and kissed by another man, bearing another man's child.
Jareth felt as if his heart was being squeezed, like a blunt knife was scraping against it.
"Mr. Jareth! Please come over!" Suddenly, Lily received a call and quickly summoned him.
"Okay."
Jareth walked over to Lily and asked, "What's up?"
Lily glanced at Marilla and lowered her voice, "I just received a call from Mr. Thaddeus' secretary, Gordon. He said Mr. Thaddeus' injuries have worsened."
"What did you say?" Jareth was taken aback and raised his voice.
Marilla looked over in confusion.
"Gordon didn't go into details. He just said Mr. Thaddeus is now recuperating in his private villa, and hasn't told anyone. Gordon felt it necessary to secretly contact me and asked you to go over and see him."
"I see, Lily, prepare the car. We're leaving now!"
Jareth didn't want Marilla to worry, so he didn't tell her. He just said he had something to do and might not be back tonight, and asked her to go to bed first.
"I'll wait for you to come back, then I'll go to sleep." Marilla walked him to the door.
She didn't say it, but her eyes were full of reluctance.
Jareth felt warm in his heart. He gave her a light smile and then ordered the maid, Bella, "Take good care of Ms. Marilla."
Just as Jareth's car left, three luxury cars that were supposed to escort Edith back to the Fairhaven mansion pulled up in front of the villa.
"Miss Edith, this is the place." Manny said in a low voice.
“All for that little tramp, my brother is really generous. He prepared such a large house. Did he think it would be their marriage house?” Edith stared at the beautiful white walls and green roof of the villa, trembling with anger.
"Please calm down, Miss Edith. Everyone in Elmsworth knows what kind of man Mr. Jareth is."
Manny tried to soothe Edith in a warm voice, "Mr. Jareth has never shown genuine affection to any woman. I've seen it all these years. He's probably just infatuated with Miss Marilla for a few days. That's all."
"You know nothing! This time it's different! He's my brother, can't I see it?"
Edith was so angry that her face turned red as a beet, "My brother is bewitched by that foolish and shameless woman, Marilla. He used to be a playboy but suddenly he's devoted to one woman! He's completely spellbound!
"Woof!"
Seeing Marilla being bullied, Coco became furious and pounced on the secretary, biting her arm!
"Ah! Let go! Let go!" The secretary screamed in pain, releasing her grip on Marilla.
Edith was also startled and retreated.
The secretary kicked and stomped at the dog, but it just wouldn't let go!
"Don't hit him!" Marilla hugged her dog, using her frail body to protect it.
Edith, her eyes bloodshot, took advantage of the chaos to kick Marilla again.
"Edith!"
A sharp frosty voice suddenly pierced Edith's heart. She hadn't even had time to retract her foot when she was caught red-handed!
She stiffly turned her head, her trembling heart almost choking her!
"Jareth."
Jareth stood there like a sword, emanating a hellish icy anger. His handsome face turned from white to red, then from red to black.
His chest rose and fell dramatically, his eyes filled with a furious torrent.
Marilla didn't know he had come, she was still hugging Coco, her eyes closed tightly, a pitiful trembling bundle.
The secretary's vision went black, she didn't even care about the pain in her arm. She was so frightened that she was shivering!
Who could have imagined that Jareth, who had supposedly left, would come back at this moment!
"Edith, did you hit Marilla?" Jareth saw Marilla's red and swollen face, his eyes narrowed, and he advanced step by step.
Edith shivered violently!
She had never seen Jareth's eyes like this, it was simply terrifying!
But now that things had come to this, she had nothing to justify. Anyway, she was Jareth's sister, the sister he had pampered since childhood.
Even if Jareth liked Marilla so much, would he do anything to his own sister? In his heart, hadn't family always been more important than anything?
"Yes! I did it! Jareth, you've gone too far! You've disappointed me and hurt me!"
Edith cried and screamed, "You sent me to Aetheria, you didn't care for so long, you didn't even make one phone call! So you were here with this wretch! You’d even abandon your own sister for her, Jareth! How could you?"
The sound of a harsh slap echoed through the entire living room before her sentence could finish.
Unbelievably, Jareth, his face void of any expression, had slapped Edith.
Edith's head swung to the side from the impact, her pale and delicate cheek immediately swelling, a shameful red handprint branding her skin. A man's strength was not to be underestimated.
It was excruciating.
With that slap, not only did Edith's face swell, but her heart shattered into pieces.
Just then, Lily walked in, taken aback by the scene before her.
In Elmsworth, it was well-known that Jareth, the eldest son of the prestigious Fairhaven family, was infamously doting on his sister.
She never would have imagined that she would witness such a scene in her lifetime. It was truly shocking.
"Edith, I'm starting to question if this woman standing before me, clad in this skin but harboring such a dark and cruel heart, is truly my sister," Jareth didn't spare Edith another glance. Instead, he reached out to Marilla, pulling her into his arm protectively. "Or perhaps, I've spoiled you rotten. You're no longer the innocent little girl you once were. You're no longer my sister."
