"You ungrateful child! I'm your father, how dare you talk to me like that?" Jeff fumed, red in the face.
If it weren't for the room full of guests, he would've slapped him right then and there!
Their generation, except for Emeric, believed in the principle "The best need no teaching, the good need strict teaching, the worst need a good beating". To deal with this little devil, he'd have to strip him down to his bones, skin him alive!
"If you show respect to my mother, then I can maintain some semblance of a father-son relationship. But if you don't, then there's more where that came from, just waiting for you."
Avery suddenly laughed, his lips curled upwards in a sarcastic smile, but his eyes were devoid of any humor.
He laughed without mirth, a cold and cruel laughter that even Jeff felt a chill down his spine!
At the end of the hallway on the balcony, the Chambers men stood facing each other.
The outside temperature was nothing compared to the icy tension between them.
"What the hell do you want?" Jeff demanded, his face as cold as ice.
"I didn't know beforehand how much the gift you gave to Myra was worth. If you feel that my gift outshines yours and that I've embarrassed you, then I apologize."
Avery seemed indifferent, "After all, ignorance is innocence, right?"
"I'm not talking about the gift!"
Jeff took a step forward, the whites of his eyes turning red, "Why did you bring her here? Are you trying to piss me off, to humiliate me?"
Avery laughed loudly, tears of laughter streaming down his face, "I thought you were talking about something serious. Turns out it was this."
"Avery!" Jeff clenched his fists, his eyes bloodshot.
"My biological mother, the woman you once swore before God to love in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do you part. Now, in your eyes, is she nothing but a source of disgust?"
Avery's eyes were red with anger, "You abandoned my mother in Helgen for fifteen years without a care. Now that I have the means to take care of her, to provide for her, to make her happy, all you do is complain about how disgusting she is. I've tolerated your insults. That's more than enough father-son affection."
"Bastard!"
Jeff finally lost his temper, delivering a resounding slap to Avery's face!
Avery's pale cheek instantly reddened from the slap, a stark contrast to his still-smiling lips and bloodthirsty eyes, "Dad, you've been looking rather weak lately. That slap didn't have nearly as much force as before. Are they not taking good care of you?"
"Bastard! Shut up!"
Jeff pointed a trembling finger at his defiant son, "Take your mother and leave immediately. If you don't, I'll send someone to take her back to Helgen!"
"How dare you!"
Avery's fists clenched tightly, veins popping on his forehead, a stark contrast to the gentleman he was in front of Evadne, "Tonight, anyone who dares to touch my mother, I'll kill them!"
"You!" Jeff's pupils constricted!
He could feel a bone-chilling murderous intent emanating from his own son's bloodshot eyes.
"Anyone from the Chambers family who can be here, my mother can be too. And you've seen tonight, my mother and I, we are the honored guests of Miss Evadne. If you kick my mother out, you'll be slapping Evadne in the face.
At that time, whatever plans you have, if you offend Evadne, I'm afraid they won't come to fruition."
Avery didn't want to waste his breath on this ungrateful old man any longer and turned to leave.
"I have never wronged your mother! She was the one who wronged me first, making me a cuckold! And because of that, I lost a daughter!"
Jeff finally couldn't hold back his anger anymore, "If she hadn't been unsatisfied and cheated on me with some random man, she wouldn't have miscarried! She could've been the respected wife of the chairman of the Chambers Group instead of a laughingstock!"
"I believe in my mother's character. She loved you deeply. There's no way she would've accepted another man!"
Avery was almost out of control, his shoulders shaking violently, his hoarse voice full of grief, "I've said countless times, it was Matthew, Byron, and Bertha, your most trusted and beloved children, who conspired against my mother! You didn't investigate the truth, didn't listen to my mother's explanation, just casually sent her off to that hell. Marrying you was the biggest misfortune of her life!"
"I've given her enough face by not divorcing when I sent her away! I saw it with my own eyes, I caught her in the act! What else does she have to say?" Jeff was infuriated, his face beet red.
Every time he thought about that scandal, he wanted to strangle Mrs. Chambers.
And this little bastard in front of him!
"Fool."
Avery sneered and turned around once more.
In fact, he didn't plan to bring this up again, because that was a part of his mother's humiliating past. Every time he mentioned it, his heart ached unbearably. This time, it was just brought up in the heat of the moment.
He no longer expected Jeff to see the truth, to see the true faces of the three monsters he raised.
He didn't care.
Because they would all end up in hell, one after another.
In the gorgeous and quiet room, an intoxicating amorous atmosphere lingered.
Soft light filled the room, outlining the two intertwined figures.
