Thaddeus was taken aback, his intended comforting hands awkwardly hanging in mid-air.
"I noticed you seemed distressed. I just wanted to..."
"Let me say it again. My affairs are none of your business!"
Evadne had no mood for any more male drama. She slipped past him, phone in hand and dashed off.
With a loud thud, the door to the room closed.
Thaddeus felt as though the warmth he had just experienced had suddenly evaporated. Everything that had just happened seemed like a beautiful, colourful bubble that had slowly risen into the sky only to be ruthlessly popped by her.
The antique he had gifted her, worth a small fortune, she had left behind.
In Evadne's eyes, her family was the most important thing and everything else was inferior.
Thaddeus felt a pang of sorrow, his heart aching in his chest.
But now was not the time for sentimentality. He quickly reacted, striding out of the room.
"Mr. Thaddeus! I just saw Mrs. Abernathy storm off. Who upset her?" Gordon asked, worried and slightly accusatory.
After all, Thaddeus used to have a mouth as foul as a decade-old outhouse!
"Myra is in trouble." Thaddeus replied, his gaze heavy.
"What? That explains the commotion I heard earlier!"
Gordon quickly pulled out his phone, his thumbs flying across the screen.
Suddenly his brows furrowed, "Mr. Thaddeus, look at this!"
Thaddeus lowered his gaze to the video playing on Gordon's phone.
In an instant, his handsome face tightened, and he snatched the phone from Gordon.
The video was from many years ago, the pixel quality wasn't great but one could clearly see Myra onstage, hand covering her lower body as fluid ran down her slender legs.
The audience below watched her, gasping in surprise!
Multiple cameras, both photo and video, were flashing relentlessly, the bright lights almost seemed to swallow Myra whole!
"My mom was Myra's biggest fan. She told me about how Myra's career ended in scandal due to drug allegations, and, and how she wet herself during a performance!"
Gordon couldn't bear to watch the video, "Back in the day, the internet wasn't as developed and phones didn't have video capabilities, so the news didn't spread as quickly. But my mom loved Myra so much she had been camped out by the TV, so she saw it all happen!"
As Thaddeus listened, he felt a pang of sympathy.
Imagine a woman in her prime, adored by all, wetting herself in such an important event. It was worse than death!
"Later, I heard from my mom that the next day, all the newspaper headlines were about Myra's scandal. It was everywhere and you could pick one up just by stepping outside. But within a few hours, those newspapers and magazines disappeared! Someone had taken them, and they were nowhere to be found!"
Thaddeus narrowed his eyes, understanding.
Of course, it was Chairman Emeric.
Back then, only someone of Chairman Emeric's stature could make all the nationwide negative press about Myra disappear so quickly!
"Someone chose today to release this scandal. It seems the person behind the scenes has been planning this for a while, and they're very capable, managing to get a video that Chairman Emeric had removed years ago."
Even though Evadne had just hurt him, at a crucial moment Thaddeus remained calm and analytical, "So, the person who released the scandal is either an old-timer from the TV station, or someone who was involved with Myra's scandal back then."
"Mr. Thaddeus, as always, your insight is spot on!" Gordon flattered.
"Immediately investigate the source of the scandal, who was the first to release this video, which marketing account, which journalist, anyone related to this situation, even slightly, I want them detained and under control." Thaddeus gritted his teeth, his handsome face cast in a cold light.
"Yes, Mr. Thaddeus!"
Once he had given his instructions, Thaddeus strode off, like a gust of wind passing by Gordon.
"Mr. Thaddeus! Where are you going?" Gordon asked in a hurry.
Without turning back, the man replied, "Evadne has gone to help her family. I need to go protect her."
It didn't matter if she didn't love him, or if he wasn't in her heart.
He had woven her into his life, into his blood. That was enough.
The scandal from years ago resurfaced, with the person behind the scenes stirring the pot, Myra's disgraceful past was once again the talk of the town!
Reporters swarmed to the Hotel like locusts.
And the online public opinion also clearly shifted.
[I've lived a long time but never have I seen such an ugly side to a once famous actress! Can you believe we're seeing this for free?]
[Wow! People usually cry when they leave the stage, she peed?]
[You youngsters wouldn't know, but I've heard rumors. Myra left the entertainment industry because of drug allegations. Her incontinence was a side effect of her drug use!]
[Is this real?]
[Does Chairman Emeric still want a woman like this? The Ashbourne family is a top-tier wealthy family. Why are they bringing someone so filthy into their home?]
[Alas, they're throwing a birthday party for this kind of woman. I bet the Ashbourne family's daughter is turning green with envy!]
As Evadne ran towards the banquet hall, she scrolled through the online rumors.
The more she read, the angrier she became, her eyes red with rage, her fingers almost crushing her phone screen!
Outside the banquet hall, Cassius, Arnold, and Aaron were having an intense discussion.
