Glynnis sat alone in her sports car, gathering her courage for a long while before she finally stepped out and walked into the hospital.
She didn’t dare bring anyone with her, because this matter had to remain confidential. The more people knew, the more risk there was.
Glynnis nudged the door, and to her surprise, it swung open! The hospital was empty, as if it was waiting for her arrival.
Just then, Glynnis' cellphone rang. On the screen was Victor's number, which she had just saved!
"Hello," she answered, forcing herself to sound calm while glancing nervously around.
"Miss Abernathy, I'm waiting for you in my office on the second floor. Come up," With that, Victor hung up without further ado.
Glynnis gritted her teeth, ascended to the second floor, and pushed the door to the office open.
At that moment, Victor was sitting on the couch in his white lab coat, smiling at her.
Seeing him, Glynnis' pupils contracted; she finally understood why Elspeth was so infatuated with this doctor. He was handsome and refined, quite a catch.
"Miss Abernathy, you're prompt. I thought I'd have to wait," Victor said with a smile, totally at ease.
"Let's not waste each other's time, Victor."
Glynnis calmed herself down, her voice cold, "You know exactly why I'm here."
"Is Elspeth doing well?" Victor didn't answer her directly, instead he smiled teasingly, "I haven't seen her in a while. To be honest, I miss her."
"Shut up!"
Glynnis, her eyes blazing with anger and abashment, pointed at Victor's mocking face, "My mom is the lady of the renowned Abernathy family, a woman of high standing. She's not someone you can covet."
Victor shrugged, "I've never coveted her. From beginning to end, it was Elspeth who threw herself at me."
"Enough! Stop talking!"
Glynnis took an abrupt step back, a wave of nausea rising from the pit of her stomach, "Give me the stuff. Now!"
"Miss Abernathy, you're a privileged young lady, enjoying in affluence since little. Even if you don't understand the ways of the world, you should know how to ask for favors. At the very least, you could have made some polite conversation," Victor's expression lay somewhere between a smile and a smirk.
Glynnis gritted her teeth, her voice hard as she said, "Victor, since you and my mom are so close, please give me what my mom asked for. It's the least you could do after all this."
Victor didn't say anything. He leisurely took out a stainless steel medical box and shook it.
"All of the medicine is in here."
Glynnis' eyes lit up, and she hurried over to grab it, but just as she reached for it, Victor pulled the box back. She grasped at nothing!
"What are you playing at?!"
"I have a relationship with Elspeth, but I have none with you, Miss Abernathy. So I can't just give this to you," Victor squinted at her in a way that was both deliberate and suggestive.
This blatant gaze, like a fire burning from head to toe, gave Glynnis goosebumps and made her heart beat faster.
What was he up to? The way he looked at her, the tone he used, it was usually a clear sexual innuendo.
Could it be he wanted her? She was Elspeth's daughter! Did this man want to have both mother and daughter? Was he into such taboos?
"You want to have sex with me?" Glynnis' voice wavered, her breathing growing erratic.
Victor remained expressionless, only tilting his head to the side and looking at her with a gaze full of hidden desire, which was exceptionally tantalizing.
Glynnis realized that without some sacrifice tonight, she wouldn't be able to get the medicine, but that didn't matter to her. She was an expert when it came to sleeping with men. Plus, Victor was not only young but also no less handsome than the male models she knew. She didn't see it as a loss.
"I understand. I know what you men want." Glynnis blushed, her fingers moving to unbutton her dress.
Soon, all the buttons were undone, and her dress slid to the floor, leaving her in front of Victor in nothing but a sexy burgundy lace bra and panties.
"Now we can."
"Miss Abernathy, what on earth are you doing?"
Victor laughed derisively, clearly unmoved, "Is this all you think about every day? When did I ever say I wanted to sleep with you?"
Glynnis was struck dumb. She was trembling with anger and embarrassment, her face as red as a beetroot.
"You're playing me?!"
Victor shook his head, "You just misunderstood me, that's all."
Glynnis was about to explode with rage. She bent down to pick up her dress, but Victor's voice, laced with mockery, stopped her.
"I want you to kneel before me and beg me. Beg me to give you the medicine."
Glynnis was seething with anger, her lips quivering and she even forgot to get dressed, "What did you say?!"
"Which word I said that you don’t understand? I don't think I need to repeat myself."
After saying that, Victor pointed to the floor, "Miss Abernathy, this is your only chance. Can you bear to watch your mom suffer from withdrawal? I don't think Elspeth can hold on much longer."
Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Victor and Glynnis, Evadne was sitting in her study with a face mask on, watching the events unfold on her computer screen, which was showing the live feed from the hospital.
Their interactions were all being observed by her!
Initially, when Glynnis started undressing, Evadne almost cracked her face mask from shocking. Evadne furrowed her brows tightly, her eyes tinged with concern, but in the next moment, a scene that was incredibly satisfying to Evadne unfolded.
Glynnis, half-naked and shivering, bent down and, without any dignity, knelt in front of Victor!
When had the golden girl of the Abernathy family ever suffered such humiliation?! But what she didn't know was that what Glynnis was going through at this moment was nothing compared to the beating she received from Jareth that almost disfigured her.
Evadne sighed softly, shaking her head helplessly, "Victor, you’re stirring up trouble again."
Glynnis walked out of the hospital with a stainless steel box in her hand, her steps heavy as if she had weights tied to her feet.
As soon as she got in the car, she screamed and shouted like a madwoman, her hands clawing at her hair, yet it did nothing to quell her rage!
Glynnis clumsily fumbled out a cigarette from her designer bag, placing it between her pale lips, her hands trembling so badly it took her several tries to light it.
It took her smoking three cigarettes in a row to calm herself down. Then, she picked up her phone and made a call.
She clenched her fist in anger, her voice choked with emotion, "An innocent girl has already died because of me. Victor, I can't let anything happen to you because of me. I can't bear it."
Victor lowered his head in guilt, "Ms. Ashbourne, I just wanted to do something for you one last time. I just wanted to vent your anger. I didn't know it would cause you so much trouble. I'm really sorry."
"You don't understand Elspeth and her daughter enough, but I do. Glynnis may not have Elspeth's brains, but she inherited Elspeth's ruthlessness perfectly. And because she doesn't think things through, she's even more vicious than Elspeth! Elspeth would consider the consequences, but she, relying on being Frederic's daughter, with the Abernathy group backing her, acts without considering the consequences!"
"So my sister was wise to have me lie in wait near your hospital."
The man in the passenger seat took off his black mask, revealing a handsome face that would make even men's hearts flutter, his eyes shining like cold stars at midnight, "As soon as you left, I followed you, fearing that Glynnis would send someone to attack you. Ha, everything exactly as Evadne predicted, that bitch really doesn't let grudges go."
"Who is this?" Victor asked dumbly.
"Elvis." Evadne moved her red lips, giving Elvis a sweet smile.
Elvis responded with a kiss, and the tense atmosphere in the car instantly filled with warmth.
Victor was surprised, then laughed at himself.
Ms. Ashbourne always had protectors around her; she never lacked people to keep her safe.
All he had to do was to keep himself safe and not cause her any trouble, which would be the best help he could give her.
After sending Victor to the hospital and arranging for two bodyguards to watch over him, Evadne finally relaxed.
At that moment, Elvis walked over with a serious expression, "Evadne, you really are a clairvoyant. Your ex-husband and the guy from the Fairhaven family really did go to Country T. Looks like Thaddeus really is planning to meet Ward behind your back!"
Evadne's heart clenched.
Although she had guessed that Thaddeus' so-called business trip was actually to pursue Ward, when her speculation was confirmed, she still felt a wave of suffocating fear.
"Did Cassius tell you that?"
"He’s already on his way to Country T. He told you not to worry, and he would handle everything cleanly and thoroughly for you."
"Country T is a whole different ball game than here at home, where we can do as we please."
Evadne furrowed her brows, pacing back and forth anxiously, "We've previously investigated Ward. He hails from a mercenary background in Country T and has a significant influence there. His networks are deeply entrenched, so much so that even the government seems powerless against them, even offering protection when necessary. If Thaddeus rushes in recklessly, the least of our worries would be not capturing Ward. I'm afraid Thaddeus himself might end up in hot water!"
"Cassius’s got connections in Country T as well. Once he arrives, he can have someone keep an eye on your ex-husband."
Elvis still wore a casual, devil-may-care grin, "I'm kind of looking forward to Thaddeus' performance this time around. I've heard so much about his fierceness and bravery during his peacekeeping mission days already. Now that the opportunity has presented itself, let's see if he's as tough as they say he is."
"Elvis! Do you even have a heart?!"
Evadne's eyes reddened with anger and frustration, her fists clenched tightly, "He's going in there almost single-handedly, without a proper weapon at his disposal, and he's stuck with Jareth as a liability! It could potentially cost them their lives! If anything were to happen to him, then I,"
"Then you'll never get married, right?"
Elvis leaned in, his hands tucked into his pocket, a mischievous glint in his eyes, mixed with a hint of affection.
Evadne blushed deeply, raising her hand to slap him, when a thought crossed her mind.
The Ashbourne family had significant influence, even more so than Cassius. They could certainly help Thaddeus!
